I'm curious of what the future holds for the Mount Carmel Heights area. My mother lives behind VC and she's constantly asking me if I want to buy the house (She's thinking about buying land and moving). I live in Kenner now so it's not an option for the time being.

Has this area gotten bad? On another note, my parents went eat at Blacks and said it was not good. They both got sick.

No, but the areas south of it are starting to get worse. Mostly the area around Old Kaplan HWY.

I still think it's the best place to live in town, but it has gotten worse. St Mary and St Paul are still the same..but with a lot of the residents being older, it has me worried.

Yeah...the first one definitely was in my neighborhood. Like...within feet of I'd guess. I could see the line of water that had come up the street in my neighborhood and stopped 2 houses down from me...literally in the same pattern it had sat across my neighbor's lawn.

Of all the great places, they chose Blacks? Should have walked across the street and went to Dupuys

I think they're building some nice neighborhoods around Carencro.

What about me, baw?

Notice I used BAW. I'm qualified

I'm just messing with you. We were in your boat a few years ago and moved North of Scott. We absolutely love it. Just be prepared, everyone who visits you will bring Boudin and Cracklins. I fricking gained 10 pounds the first month we lived here

I've had to spend a day here and there in Lafayette over the last few years and I just spent the weekend there and it's kinda crappy. I expected more based on comments on this board over the years, but it's just another medium sized LA town with low rent areas everywhere.

If you grew up here and lived here a long time, it is all you know. With the surrounding areas going to hell in a hand basket so rapidly, Lafayette literally is the nicest area within about a 40 mile range. It is all that's left.

It is OK. I'm coming to the realization with the local leadership that Lafayette will soon be a dump as well.

Like I said earlier, I wouldn't trade the people here for anything though. I love my fellow Cajuns. We are a very diverse culture and everyone helps everyone else out. The floods brought this out too. But it is still becoming a dump. And the cost of a house in Lafayette is pretty much on par with nice areas such as the outskirts of Houston, Dallas, etc. Yes, this is accurate. I am doing a ton of research now.

Me and my wife lived in Carencro for two years and (surprisingly) loved it. It was quiet and peaceful, but also close enough to Lafayette to go and do the things we wanted. Anywhere between Sunset and Carencro is nice if you like quiet living. Also, Don's Specialty Meats is a damn good perk.

Edit: Parts of Carencro are trashy and ghetto. Look to the outskirts toward Cankton/Church Point
