KG as someone who move to Houston from BR 4 years ago, I wish I would have rented a house coming in. Work your lease to have a lower buyout or good terms for you. They understand relocations.

We did an apartment for 6 months, which was miserable, so we feel we rushed our decision. It worked out, but just saying. Plus the housing market will force you to rush on a purchase.

Eta we love Cinco ranch here in Katy. Fantastic schools and great community

This is purely a question asked because I'm bored on Sunday morning. I'll have a real estate agent who's very familiar with our work situation and a few work friends to truly rely on for sound advice. A lot of us have made this move recently so I have some contacts. Just getting a feel so the wife and I can hit the real estate websites over the next month or so.

Come to Katy brah. 77494 is the hottest zip code in the country right now. My condo has lots of milfs that like to hang out at the pool. Join the party.

Can't wait. Give us oil with a $50 handle for a few years, and I'll swoop into West U.

look at Champions/Klein area.

This right here. From what I understand you'll be on the northside (I assume 45) and West, I assume I-10.

If you're splitting equal time at both locations look there and Tomball/Magnolia. You will be able to get a little more for your money than Katy/Woodlands.

I would avoid Spring though. It's trash.

I love Katy, south of I-10 obviously. Although there's an alarming number of apartments popping up. I wish they'd stop building that shite.

Woodlands has horrible traffic if you need to go downtown. Katy traffic isn't great but Woodlands is worse.

the height is very hip/cool/close to downtown, but i doubt you'll find anything under 300000 that's not a condo/townhome ... you could look just north of the heights/610 to the oak forest/garden oaks, which is essentially an extension of the heights, though outside the loop ... you might could get a 2 br/2 bath under 300000 in a decent area ... you'd have to go to 400000 for a 3b in a decent area, but it's worth a shot to look around ... it feeds into the nw section between 290 and 45 towards cypress, but i would not do spring/cypress/klein school districts ...

my brother in law says Bridgeland is the place to be right now. Not as far as Cypress from downtown but nicer than Jersey Village.

LINK

my family lives near the Jersey Village golf course and I think its a great area but apparently others disagree

I know the whole propert tax situation is different in Houston. But outside of city limits, what are you looking at. I know it differs from suburb to suburb, but what are the yearly taxes on a 300k house going to run in say Katy. We were on the verge of moving here in Louisiana, so I know what mortgage I can afford here (taxes and insurance). I know that it can be vastly different from place to place in Houston.

What are insurance rates like? I'm paying about 3k a year now. I'm hoping to catch a break on that.

Plus I realize the 6% state income tax goes away. Haven't gotten the final offer to know how much that will save me, but hopefully it covers any property taxes.

no idea why anyone would want to live in the suburbs. If you're working in north and west houston, try the Heights.

Property taxes in Cinco Ranch differ depending on the age. If you buy something more on the east side taxes are about $6k yr. in the newer houses (not likely for 300) taxes would run about $10k yr. Check the tax rates. Anything mid-2% or lower is good. Anything above 3 is going to cost you. For example, old house was 2.79%. Newer construction could run you 3.5%. Taxes in Katy are a bit higher but the schools are excellent.
