I think there are some more new neighborhoods springing up on the SW side along Hwy 90, too.
Yes, there are a few subdivisions going up along Hwy 90.

Tbird, considering 3-4 days there with the wife in a couple of months. Going to stay somewhere on riverwalk. Any advice on things to do, restaurants, etc?

If you will be commuting to Elmendorf on a daily basis you really don't want to be on the North or East side of SAT.
Alamo Heights may work if you can start your trip pretty early in the a.m.
If you have kids, you may be in for a long commute if you want them in a decent school.
I'd see what Floresville has to offer.

Elmendorf is where i would be based out of

Well that narrows things down to about 5 places of employment , do you want to be in SA or a more rural/suburban type area? I'm about 20 minutes from Elmendorf out in the country, no way I'd live in SA itself but that's just me. If your looking more suburban type then check out La Vernia, several new large editions on FM 775 between Hwy 181 and 87 that are just as nice as you'll find up in the Hill Country but on bigger pieces of land and would only be 15 mins from work with one stop light in between. LV schools are the best you'll find everywhere south or east of SA, the area along 775 where the new larger homes are is where a lot of the oil field management folks that are all south of SA have bought. Your dollar will go a lot further there than in the other areas mentioned and the taxes in Bexar County are a lot higher as well. Poth is south and is nice but more rural than La Vernia, I'd avoid Floresville if you have school aged kids. If you have to be in the city then your best bet would be west in area TBird mentioned unless you want to fight traffic everyday and go north of town where everyone else is.

No knowledge of what south SA is like

I've been in and out of SA for over 20 years. I don't recommend looking for houses down there

Sorry, idk how I missed this, my bad. Take her on a riverboat tour, eat a meal at the Tower of the Americas, take her to spend money @ La Cantera

If y'all are until sports at all, catch a Spurs game. Usually very sharp basketball from them this time of year, and the fan experience is pretty immersive (wifey isn't a particularly huge sports fan but she loves going to Spurs games).

Institute of Texan Cultures is great, and also the Botanical Gardens over by the zoo

If you like history, do the mission trail. You can rent bikes. Covers all five of the Catholic missions along the San Antonio river from the Alamo to the south. Awesome. Have done it twice with my wife and still did not see everything I wanted to see.
