It's called blocking the box, they've put up signs for it in Houston finally. I hope we can develop a culture of complete intolerance for it here.
I went to philly with a friend, sweet girl, and I had never seen a "don't block the box" sign. They were at every intersection in the city.
Low and behold someone dared to do it as we were driving around. I've never heard such profanities come out of a woman's mouth. All the surrounding drivers were cussing and laying on their horns. Even the pedestrians on the sidewalk were yelling and cussing at the perpetrator.
It was a beautiful thing to behold

yeh I am not talking about that...I am talking about the ones who act like they were in the wrong lane and skip a bunch of cars and get in at the last second.

I was talking about that intersection the other day in the green light tax thread. It's unreal how people just block lanes through entire light cycles

Some states are outlawing the practice. It's called "Don't Block the Box".
A big concern is "Blocking emergency vehicles".

Claiming your intersection is completely different... you do that when you have a green light without a turn signal. You proceed into the intersection until the oncoming traffic is clear for you to turn. People that stop at a green light and refuse to turn left without a signal is one of my biggest pet peeves. But that's not what he's talking about. When traffic is stopped in the lane you're turning into, you definitely don't proceed into the intersection and block that bitch. That's inconsiderate.
Claiming your intersection is one of the most courteous traffic habits, IMO, because it gets you out of everyone's way - as long as the lane you're turning into is clear.

In the big city, it's a fact of life. As soon as the walk symbo appears, you'll have 30-40 people crossing the street and cars can be stuck in the middle for 3/4 of a cycle.

It's one of the more understandable ones. I've ended up blocking intersections because it was clear that there was enough room on the other side of the light, but every car in front of me decided to stop 20 yards behind the car in front of them.

Sure if that's your first available time to do so. Not kosher if you decide to blow past everybody in the right lane waiting to exit only cut off someone at the last minute in order to get off at that exit.
frick people who do that kinda shite when exiting hwy/interstate etc...
