No single place. Plan to live on the road as long as the health holds out and travel with the seasons. Too many great places to sit still.

I'm still in my early 20's. I can dream right?
Humbly at 50. I'd settle for scenic spot on the Delta.

I think you should dream on, brother. Dream on!

So where would you like to retire?

maybe they are being realistic? I don't know man
I want to retire on a island in Washington
A co-worker "retired" north of the area you're talking about in Bellingham. Her mom died & left her enough to retire on. I don't think she lives too lavishly but she loves it there. Is that a nice area?

I have spent a lot of time in Tahoe and Santa Fe...beautiful, but way too many tourists to make them good retirement options.

Park City... but I'll settle for Midway, UT.

I love cities and the water, so my ideal fantasy retirement would be spending the warm months in a major city (penthouse on Central Park) and the winter months in a tropical paradise (USVI), but that probably isn't realistic.
So IRL I'd like a decent sized city that offers a good variety of restaurants and cultural activities that is close to the beach (or a place on the beach close to the city). And it would need to be close enough to my close family (esp kids and grandkids) and friends. Ideally also w/in a half day drive to a major city.
I'm thinking somewhere in the Carolinas or Georgia. Charleston, Savannah or maybe Wilmington all seem like decent choices. Warm climates, some stuff in the cities, close to the beach, and easy drive to Atl or Charlotte.

Or work until 75, and retire more lavishly?
Ill work until the day I die if I still like my work. I don't understand the obsession with retiring on this board, some people REALLY need new jobs!

When I retire which seems like will be sooner rather than later. I have always liked Gulf Shores and New Braunfels but I think I want to further south in Florida. Maybe Key West.

Heaven. I just want to finish out my career and die. I'm 30, married w/ no kids.

After just getting back from the BVIs, I will definitely second Jost
Plans are already in the works to retire on a Catamaran predominantly staying moored in either White Bay, Great Bay, or off Diamond Cay, with a few ventures further South
I think I'll just set up residence at Ivan's Stress Free

Kauai or Destin for Spring Summer

For me the optimal was in between - late 50s and it has worked out well for me !
