Some people squeeze the lever immediately after selecting the grade. This lets a pocket of air into the discharge side of the pump and it can lose part of it's prime, or become air bound. If this happens and the pump is really slow, take out the nozzle and lay it on the ground for about 5 seconds then retry. It works.
The best practice is to wait until you hear the pump come on before squeezing the valve.
