quote:

In Baton Rouge, the Post found two regions, both in north Baton Rouge, where a high number of homicides occur but where less than one in three of those killings is solved. Another area in north Baton Rouge, however, showed that a high number of homicides occurred there, but the majority were solved.

Over the last seven years, the homicide rate in Baton Rouge has continued to increase, while the arrest rate has dropped, according to the Post analysis.

Washington Post Interactive Map

I don't think there is a whole lot of surprise where the highest concentration of these killings are in BR.

Of the murders from 2011-2017, the demographics of victims are: 375 black (88.4%), 35 White (8.3%), Hispanic 11 (2.6%), Asian 1 (0.2%)

Only real surprise to me is that over 50% result in an arrest.

Just explain how WaPo framed this as racist and get it over with.

About the only part is a chart that shows the percentage of arrest made depending on race (i.e. higher percentage of arrest when someone white is killed vs someone black)

Hadn't it actually been dropping up until a couple years ago?

We are at exactly 50% closure rate so far in 2018. Not sure how that projects for the final 2018 closure rate.

Nola is at 65% with no arrests made, so y'all are doing pretty good in comparison.

Doesn't a closed case mean that they either got an arrest or their main suspect is dead? If they're at 65% with no arrests, seems like they're way ahead of the curve.

Except I am moving there in 3 weeks

At least where I am moving has only had 1 murder in 7 years and that was still 6 blocks away.

Well let’s see...

Two areas with high murder rate and low arrests and one area of high murder rate and high arrests.

The high arrest area is in the vicinity of Exxon. The low arrest areas are around Memorial Stadium and Prescott / Mohican about a mile away from Exxon.

The big difference in the three? Exxon probably pays for security cameras, off duty cops, etc, to patrol around their perimeter while these other areas are “no snitching” black / blue collar white areas.

A lot of that probably has to do with a willingness to cooperate with a police investigation.

Also to solve 54% of murders of white victims is a little less than 19 or about 2.7 solved per year vs. 202.5 black victims must be solved or nearly 28.9 solved per year to get to 54% arrest made. Basically it takes 10x the number of arrest to get to the same percentage of arrest.

NOPD Homicide is not anywhere near a 35% clearance rate right now. Was 18% midway through 2017. Swapping that moron with Lubrano was a good move, but changes won't happen overnight.
