When will New Orleans cancel the Bayou Classic?

It’s time. Latoya needs to shut it down.
It brings no value to the city, and the dome and city lose money during this spectacle.
Now 11 people are shot. Let the game be played in North BR or Grambling.

Its a fact
But we live in a time where facts are racist
Thus you are racist

Do people really travel in big numbers for this game or is it just New Orleans natives run amok?

It’s easy actually. Cancel the contract with the dome for financial reasons.
The schools can figure out where to go.
Do they even play the game on television anymore? I can’t believe there’s a national interest in it.

A lot of folks with no solid connection to either school will travel in for this game.

If you drove from nola to the LSU game yesterday, you would have noticed shite tons of fans coming down 10 with their flags on their cars.
They don’t stay in hotels. They drive in, drink, shoot people and go home.

Eats, shoots and leaves?

All in a day’s work. I don’t blame these people - I blame our society for failing them. We need to reach these youths.

There is a statues comment on the NOLA.com site that I thought for sure came from you.

I am against this idea for two reasons. One, I am a traditionalist and I hate to see traditions die. Two, I love spending the weekend downtown tailgating with the friendly fans from both schools.
I have been attending tailgates for Bayou Classic for two decades now. I will say I’ve seen a steady decrease in numbers the last ten years. This year was very poorly attended in my opinion, at least looking at the numbers tailgating. I sense the tradition, like most of college football except for the few pseudo college teams that make profit, is dying.

They travel in for the "activities" around the game not actual attendance at the game.

Do you have any stats on this?

I refuse to post on nola.

I was coming to here to post this very same question. We messed up and stayed in town the night of this before. I’ve never seen anything like it. We canceled our hotel and drive back home. 4 ppl were shot that night.

I don’t think anyone has the balls to actually cancel it but i do think it’s such a poor product that it will fade away soon enough.

The conversation cannot happen due to race. Black people will turn a blind eye to the violence that comes with the game. White people are racist if they do bring it up. A serious conversation needs to happen. Ten people were shot and it contributes to a spike in crime during this event every year. Unless you bring in Mardi Gras money you are not worth it.

I would be embarrassed to say I went to one of the worst academic schools in the nation.
At Grambling, among those ACCEPTED, the 25th percentile ACT score is 16, and the 75th percentile ACT score is 20. The average high school GPA is a 2.81.
At Southern, among accepted students, the 25th percentile ACT score is 17, and the 75th percentile ACT score is 21. Twice in the last decade, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges placed Southern University on a warning list citing missed benchmarks related to faculty, student achievement, "institutional effectiveness" and student complaints.
