I really hate this shite, because if mankind had your mentality as a whole, we would have never left the cave. “Oh screw the planting and plowing of these fields when we have perfectly good caves to live in and hunt and gather from. Who cares about going out and expanding the species?”
No one but nerds give a shite about the probes. We need men back on the Moon and to go to Mars. You’re just fricking wrong here. No one but nerds have given a single frick about the space program in 40 years, and that needs to change.
It’s fricking embarrassing that we haven’t been to the Moon in nearly 50 years. If they knew this 50 years ago, then they probably would have gone full out Operation Mutual Destruction. It’s pathetic where our space program is today.

We need to do something. America needs a spark. The nuclear race and the space race and the Cold War drove so much innovation and since then we’ve been complacent.
Damn shame. Competition drives inovation and lately we just haven’t had competition. Let China put a man on the moon and drive us towards figuring out how to get a man to mars.
It really is insane how much more complicated that becomes though. Just the amount of acceleration a human can handle is an issue when you start talking about going that far and landing in a reasonable timeframe.

It's embarrassing that we're $20 trillion in debt and we have people crying about not going back to the moon. How about pay down our debt and then we can talk about funding more space adventures.

I agree with you though. Given current Earth to orbit tech it makes zero sense to send people into space and likely never will. So much more can be done for so much cheaper going the unmanned route. But TD doesn’t get teary eyed saying 'merica with probes so let the taxdollars flow.

Who cares? We’re never going to pay it off (particullarly to China) because we reward them with innovative products that advance us as a species and jobs for their workforce. I’d rather us go in a debt that no one expects us to pay off doing great things than paying them off and just being mediocre.

Well its not going to happen unless you have a guy out there doing this. Really “The Martian” plot is the best fricking thing that could ever happen for space program. Everyone would be invested from that day on after that. You need a human element for the average mouth breather to pay attention. Yes I nerded out for Curiosity, Cassini, and New Horizons, but the average person doesn’t give a shite. The human element is key.

Sorry it doesn’t inspire the average joe but it’s actual science and actual work done. And those probes also doesn’t require a life support system. Inspiration is about as good of an arguement to make for something as "diversity", it just honestly doesn’t mean shite.

It isn’t really my opinion, though I repeat it. I listen/read a ton on space. It is an interest of mine. Not economical to send flesh through space is what most experts agree on. Distance, and resources needed to attack us or any other planet is the main barrier to why we haven’t been visited or will ever be attacked.

Ok, and people have died pursuing this dream and more will die in the pursuit of it. I am willing to make that sacrifice including putting my own neck on the line if that is what it took. The men of Apollo 1 perished in the name of furthering the species.
Given all the dumb shite we die and fight over, I see this in a far more positive light than people who fight a bullshite war. The inspiration means the financing and people giving a shite. In short, it means everything.

So we get up into space and then what, wave a really expensive flag around? We have computers and technology that allows us to accomplish so much more with way less mass. And when getting off the surface of the Earth mass is everything. Develop a better/cheaper means to space and the calculus might change (although in reality not really because tech advances are quickly overtaking anything humans could do).

We have been there for years. Secret Space Program is blowing and going.
Mining so much silver on it to pay for the program, silver prices have been low for years because of the over abundance.
The low gravity makes it a better place for Mars launches as well. It is really a better space station than the ISS.
