When you put the two together, you get the answer that you are ineligible for federal $600 if you make more than $247 a week. If you make $246 a week, you would get $1 in state benefits and $600 in federal benefits per week.

And if you make $248 you will get $0 state and $0 federal.

Talk about disincentivizing work.

Sure are a lot of dumbasses calling people idiots on this board. The world would be a better place if you miserable SOBs would drink aquarium cleaner.

OP Once you make over the STATE benefit you are no longer eligible for unemployment and thus aren't eligible for the additional government stipend.

Is this the thread where a bunch of people who have knocked government assistance for years give advice on how to cheat the system?

The extra $600 from the feds has created some lazy pieces of shite. People skipping out on employment so they can take the handout. The mentality of continuing to nurse the government tit is disgusting. Unemployment benefits aren't supposed to be designed to keep you unemployed.

The site also says as long as your hours are reduced, you can still file. These aren't normal unemployment operations.

They may not say it, but the actual rule is "as long as your hours are reduced, and pay is less than $247". If you are reduced and making $300+ per week, you don't qualify.

Stupid, I agree. But the rules.

I've seen a ton of "help wanted" posts on Instagram the past few days from places that were really popular and not necessarily easy places for bartenders to get jobs at before the virus due to demand.

My guess is their employees said no to coming back, so now they're stuck. That really blows.

I have a friend that owns a restaurant. She can't get her bartenders to come back to work. They are making more now for doing nothing than they were making before.

But I won’t get my paycheck for three weeks.

Do I keep filing until the week I actually get paid?

These places can’t make money at 25% neither can the bartenders or waitstaff

Once it gets sorted out those people will end up having to pay back benefits and will be unemployed

We are in an odd time in Georgia. Everywhere I go I see Help Wanted signs, and Now Hiring signs. But every night the news is full of sad stories about out of work people and families struggling due to unemployment.

I think people are sitting at home waiting for the next Government check, and won't go back to work until they are convinced their next check will come from an employer.

I put in another thread, but a few of my regular places here were approved for the PPP loan and already received the funds. They are required to spend 75% of it on payroll, which means they had to get their staff back. For my regular place, their staff said they were making more on unemployment than what the business would pay them hourly, so the restaurant agreed to match up to what unemployment was paying.

They retained 95% of their old staff, who are now mostly standing around because you don't need a full team to do takeout orders.

It makes sense these places would go ahead and open the 25% of seating since the staff is already there being paid.

I'd have to guess most places that are deciding to open right now received that loan. It can only help them. Not so much for those that didn't get it.

Yep. My place was smart to match the pay so their employees would come back.

Sounds like a lot of places took the loan but didn't offer to increase pay in order to get their staff back. So they'll be screwed when they have to pay the loan back.

I typed a reply to your initial post and erased it because I thought i was being too harsh - maybe this guy is trying to do the right thing.
But thanks for clearing it up.

To intentionally do the wrong thing is an open invitation for karma to come in and bite you in the arse. You, and people like you, suck.

You can file but if you make more than $247 dollars in a week you are ineligible for unemployment and wont get $1

If you refuse work to get that free money, your employer must report it, and you will be ineligible yet again

bottom line: go to work
