I remember when they’d ask smoking preference, my Adam would always answer that he preferred Marlboros.

Have had this discussion before. Not a smoker and I HATE the smell of smoke...but I think gov's doing this is massive overreach. Should be up to the bar or individual place to decide.

As a non smoker, I appreciated it

With the exception of a stewardess I believe this was true.

And they told us smoking was bad for our health.

I don't smoke but always thought there should be entire smoking and non-smoking restaurants and bars.

The free marketplace would dictate if they succeed or fail.

You could say that about a lot of places, but you should 100% be able to smoke in men's stores or restaurants.

I smoke when I drink but otherwise don’t smoke. I get not having smoking in restaurants

It’s bullshite to not allow it in casinos and bars though.

Best smoke of the day was with a hot cup of coffee after eating a hearty dinner. I quit smoking ages ago but still remember how well it tasted.

Best move ever to ban smoking. I was at the Chimes one day and kept smelling a strong cigarette odor. Upon further investigation, found a smoldering butt under the table on the floor.

For those of you who remember when restaurants either allowed smoking wherever or at least had designated smoking sections, did it take a while for you to adjust to the way restaurants smelled?

Regardless of whether you were a smoker yourself, did it bother you that greasy spoon diners smelled clean?

No, why would it bother me?

Both my parents were smokers. My mother was so-so but my dad damned near chain-smoked unfiltered Camels. He bought them by the carton, not the pack.

So I grew up with smoking but neither I nor my sister ever smoked. I preferred then (and still do now) restaurants where smoking was not allowed or sequestered.

All that said, I have never approved nor wanted a law limiting smoking in any establishment. I feel that should be the business' choice.

If it’s in the same room sure.

Bellazars in Cleveland, ms has a dining area and bar upstairs that is smoking and a dining area downstairs that’s non smoking. You can’t tell if you’re downstairs

My parents both smoked, and I loved it when the shite was banned. If you want to blow that shite around, go the frick outside a-hole.

The cigarettes in restaurants never bothered me.

Them not allowing smoking inside casinos bothered me.

I like not having my clothes reek after eating. There is a place by me with a decent burger but they still allow smoking inside so I avoid it

I’ve never minded public smoking anywhere.

If they still had smoking sections on airplanes, we might not see as many people losing their minds on flights.

I’ll take a smoky airplane if we can get back to flights having no fatties, decently dressed people, comfortable seats, and attractive flight attendants.

Beats the hell out of this

Same here. We could smoke at our desk at work and back then they allowed you to smoke on a plane.

My first job was a grocery store sacking groceries, and people would walk the aisles smoking. We had ashcans at the end of several aisles. I was there when the store banned it inside the store and it was always fun informing someone of the new rule. Most people were cooperative and apologetic, but some would let their Karen out.

Uh, you are the bitch arse Karen in this story.
I’m not surprised that you can’t see your hippocracy.

What was the last car you bought that came with an ashtray and a push in cigarette lighter?
I think my 2008 z71 came with one. My 2014 and 2020 sierras definitely didn’t

The coolest was those 50s Chevy bel airs that had ashtrays connected to a vacuum hose that sucked air when you cranked the car. It would suck the smoke, ash, and butt and deposit it in a metal canister under the hood
