Where/when did this happen? I can’t seem to find anything in the news about this.

what city did this happen in?

Damn.
Is there a news report we can read? Where did this happen?
A friend of mine in high school watched his dad get arrested. He had hired someone to kill his mother for insurance money. The “hit man” backed out and went to the police. He had planned to take the family out to a pecan orchard and there would have been a hunting accident.
Showed up and police surrounded them. I couldn’t get over that his plan involved his son watching his mother get shot.

It's insane they seemed like every day upper- middle class family, then murder!

What made him go over the edge?
And, yes, execute him swiftly.

The dogs were fine. Initial reports said cat was killed, unsure about that. No more info to give I know how you guys are. It's very heartbreaking My family is distraught. Devastated. You have no idea until you've been here. Mom and Dad of suspect are total wrecks. Please pray, don't attack

Sorry for your loss baw. You treated him pretty good and I am sure you were hoping he would come by and say hello when he was passing close.

Something happened. People don’t just kill one another at 5:45 am.

You very well could be right.
You just as easily could be wrong.
We don't freaking know.

I'm so sorry for you and your family and those boys. Looked at her FB page and she was a clinical therapist with an outfit called Youth Home, Inc. Must have really wanted to help troubled kids. I can't even imagine the shock of something like this. Horrid.

Goodness that is such a terrible story. I'm so sorry to hear that.
If possible, see if the family can step in and really be there for the adopted kids' lives. I am unsure of the courts' procedure for things like this, but those kids are going through a lot. And since they were your Niece's kids, they're your nieces and nephews as well. They need you.
I had a good friend of mine in middle school who's mom killed his dad. She stabbed him multiple times. The dad was not known to be a violent person, and there was no known history of domestic violence. Apparently, they got into a big argument in the kitchen. Things really got heated. The mother grabbed a knife. The father didnt think she would actually do it so he dared her to stab him, and so she obliged... I don't think my friend was ever the same. He went to the military, and ended up being dishonorably discharged. I'm not the one to give excuses for peoples' actions, but I almost feel like that was not even his fault after what he experienced as a child.
