I always wondered why places like Walmart, Sams or some other discount Tire locations would sell tires for a lot lower price than a replicable location. Until I found this out about tires! Look on the side of your radial and you will see this !
The first two numbers indicate what week of the year it was made (out of 52 weeks per year), and the second two numbers represent the year. For example, 5200 would reveal that a tire was manufactured during the 52nd week of the year 2000. They will sell tires that have been possibly on a shelf in a warehouse somewhere for a long time which could turn into dry rot or some other deterioration. So make sure before your next purchase!

This should be common knowledge. Always check the date code on tires.

And if the tires are somehow 2 years old you will never know the difference.

You're not out there hot lapping the racetrack Ace.

I recently bought four tires from Costco. Two are codes 1321 and the other two are 1521. Only three months old, which seems pretty fresh to me. Costco was also the cheapest I could find. Costco FTW!

They are all ordering from the same warehouses and distribution system.

Unless there happens to be a set in the back (popular sizes) those things are getting delivered from a local warehouse.

It's not. My dad taught me a lot of things but an engineer at my job taught me this about 10 yrs ago when I was 35.

It's valuable info. Don't knock the OP if he helps a few people.

Will they? Some places won't even fix a flat if it's over a few years old.

Seems like no regulations on selling old tires. So yeah check them. Just wonder if your tire explodes that was 6 years old if there would be some liability from the company that sold it.
