What does this really mean? If a nurse works a 12 hour shift prior to COVID-19 or now, they are working 12 hours, what’s the difference? Is this the game school teachers always use to get attention and sympathy? Is this a ploy to argue for student loan forgiveness, pay increases or fewer duties while at work?

Do they know that many, many people have stressful jobs with long hard hours? Instead of crying about their situation, go work at a doctors office or another type of healthcare facility. Maybe change careers, you are obviously educated.

Personally, I am not sympathetic. Come on nurses and teachers, let me have it!!

Do you think health care workers only just started complaining about being exhausted when COVID came around?

I guess in some places that previous 12 hour shift would have had plenty of time for gossip and tik tok videos, and the new normal 12 hour shift would have... the same I guess, but with COVID.

Fwiw, it is a money issue.

The one person I know that consistently worked covid units the first time around hasn't been assigned to one in weeks. The reason, they would rather them cover the normal spots so they don't have to pay OT.

Was even called off, told not to report to work, because there wasn't enough work to support them coming in.

This is from one of the hospitals that JBE usually cites as not having enough manpower.

My parents are retired teachers as is my mother in law. My wife and I are teachers and my only sibling is a nurse.
Teachers get what they get but know exactly what they are in for as far as hours and salary are concerned. Nurses too, to an extent. Teachers and nurses don’t need skippys sympathy. But skippy might need him a nurse or an education for his children some day so be nice. Sometimes being nice is enough...

I guess less time to have affairs at the hospital since they actually have to work their whole shift.

What does COVID have to do with them being exhausted?

Not a Karen here but I imagine the big difference is the risk of infection they face being around COVID all the time, and the “siege” mentality that might develop seeing patients die for months on end. Suburban stay at home pro lockdown moms who have never faced adversity are the ones to mock, not the health care workers imo.

Many have not had a day off since June. Many are now working double shifts since co-workers are quarantining. Many are now taking care of triple the amount of patience as usual. Are you shite heads going to start attacking Healthcare workers now because the fact they are being overwhelmed challenges your insular fantasy world?

Nurses specifically are making tons of money for overtime. $50 more an hour type money. Travel nurses are being offered $7000+ per week with 8-12-16 week length contracts. Just insane.

I will never feel bad for nurses and doctors complaining about workload. You don’t see infantry Marines crying about having people shoot at them. You knew exactly what you were getting into.

Its absolutely ridiculous. No one cares.... Its a job, we all have jobs. I've never seen a profession try to get as much mileage out of a disease than health care workers during the CV 19

Stepmom is a respiratory therapist and works on covid floor. They have a ton more patients. Are exposed to the virus constantly, patients want to argue about every little thing you ask them to do, especially the old ones, doctors don’t follow protocol when changing settings on ventilators, etc from what they were set on. If something happens, there’s no chain of who did what. They’re also working a ton more hours. I don’t see why internet dumbfricks want to attack these people because some of them are obnoxious on Facebook.

I regularly work 12 hour days and literally have hundreds of people’s lives in my hands daily as a regional airline pilot, and make less money than nurses.

You won’t find me bitching about how stressful it is or asking for sympathy or attention.

Just do your job and STFU about it.
