Why leak (read: sell) the audio to TMZ? Why not take it to your boss to clear your name? I'll bet a dollar he got more than $10K from TMZ for it.

from another story i read, it sounds like the LAPD had the audio from day 1 and wouldn't produce it, so he could clear his name, he had to do this on his own.

What a shame. I feel sorry for any LEO right now.
He should get an award for being so patient. People don't realize the law. He has every right to ask for ID..PERIOD. Especially if he is called to a scene.
ETA: I would defintaly countersue for $10,001 just out of spite.
But, I'm sure he got 50k for "leaking" it. If the LAPD had the tape from day one, you damn right I would have leaked it to clear my name....and possibly make a little money too

Article made it sound like they had the audio but didn't come to the officer's defense. He was forced to take care of it himself.

This had to have happen. I mean the audio was so clear. I had to have been from a department issued recording device. I mean, it wasn't from a cell phone by a bystander or anything like that.
