Drive it until it dies or your child needs a vehicle. That is how to do it.

When it becomes a maintenance headache. I know it's pretty much always cheaper to fix it but when it starts becoming a hassle I'll get rid of it.

I spend a lot of time in my truck

That's a major difference. I live 2.8 miles from work and everything that I do (bank, store, gym, etc.) Is within a mile of my house. I only drive 200-300 miles/month. I can't justify a $1,000 truck note and $150/month in insurance for that.

I like having a new one every 4 or 5 years when new body styles come out.

I don't really care about body styles and appearances. In fact, I could have bought a 2nd Gen Tundra back in July, but I prefer old school most of the time. I bought this particular truck not because I'm frugal, but because I like it and have always wanted that body style.

My family of 4 has always had one “nice” vehicle and one less nice (now that the kids are drivers it’s 3 vehicles ..son at college is without a car while there).

My wife usually has the nice vehicle. Currently that’s a 2022 Honda CR-V. I have the same truck I bought new in 2011 (Nissan), she’s on her 3rd car since then. I am considering buying a smaller car for my commute. I’d have probably done so a few years ago but Covid allowed lots of working from home. Lately I’m having to commute 3-4 times a week and the gas mileage sucks. I’ll keep the truck and probably buy a Camry or Accord. I’ll then drive it for 10 years or more (if the wife doesn’t take it and leave me with the CR-V..which is about the same anyway).

I am trying to wait til hers is paid off (next December). I only do 36 month loans.

Hopefully my 2009 Tahoe lasts until my 9 year old starts driving.

That's the goal.

Love my '03 Mazda with 256k miles but it is blowing blue smoke and I can't find a replacement engine with a decent warranty.
I'd do a motor swap and keep it another twenty years if I could.

you arent going to get warranties unless you buy brand new, so you should give up that idea.

buy an engine from a running car in salvage yard that you can hear it run. they sell them for scrap metal price so no warranty, but you are only paying $300 for a running engine. you can find them wrecked with around 100k miles and that engine will easily go another 250k miles.

stop focusing on warranties, you been driving that thing without a warranty forever so stop being your own worst enemy.

Big mistake here actually responding to people. Usually your old bullshite threads was an op then you would disappear. At least then there was a tiny chance the stuff you say about your life was true.

Well you didnt drive by post and you just confirmed again that you're retarded, which we all knew anyway.

Good Friday thread retard!

Never really gave a shite about vehicles. I Like to pour my $$ into my home and travel. I guess once the vehicle becomes a money pit or just extremely unreliable is when I’d look to make a change. I drive an old 2008 mercury mariner I’d upgrade Mrs jkyle before myself though but neither of us really care about newer cars and both really don’t want a big arse car note. Would rather take that money and go on 5-6 really nice vacations a year.

Typically when it gets to the point I question if the vehicle will make a long road trip without giving me any type of issue

My current truck has 193,000 and runs great. Paid $16k for it used with 70,000 miles 7 years ago. Should I drive it until it dies and donate it to a junkyard or start looking for a similar deal? I’m thinking the former

No, you should ditch a perfectly good vehicle and pay $70k plus high interest rates for a new one.

When interest rates aren’t in “arse rape” territory. So thankful that we picked up our suburban when we did, we would be paying an extra 300-400 extra per month for the same vehicle right now.

Wife's vehicle: when I hear loud, continuous noise from inside the house. Typically every model style change.

My wife got a 80k dollar SUV and when a side lamp that lights up the curb when you make a turn stopped working at 10k miles (because of a blown bulb) she bitched at what a piece of shite it was and she may want a new one

I had to nip that in the bud. The service dept at the local dealership hates her guts I’m certain

True, I have a 2014 F150 with 220,000 miles and never any trouble, except that is got hit by lighting 7years ago, costing ins com. 7700$. I could afford a new one, but I just don't want to spend that kind of money. Would probably replace the motor when/if needed.

I have to for out $250k then so be it. I’ll take that 0.000000001% chance. That’s my choice. No reason I should write you assholes a check every month and get nothing in return. Insurance is the #1 problem and corrupt business in this country.

Idiots like you are the reason LSU can afford to recruit better players, thank you for your service!

I have a vehicle allowance that stipulates my vehicle be no more than 5 years old or more than 200,000 miles. So that’s when I buy a new vehicle.

When I have to ride a bike. My 09 Tacoma 4wd has 235,000 and still going strong. No vehicle payment since'13.
