We've had good luck in the last 10 years as far as not having to decide. Vokswagen TDI that they had to buy back from us after owning for 5 years. Financially turned out to be great for us. Bought a new vehicle after that. Got totaled in an accident 1.5 year later that wasn't my fault. Got another great financial deal from insurance paying us very nearly the purchase price. Bought my current truck and it's paid off and running fine.

Wife had a Tahoe that reached 100k miles, but started having random things fall apart. Only vehicle we actually decided to trade in and got a mid-sized Infiniti SUV. We honestly didn't love that car. She got t-boned in a non-at fault accident and that one got totalled after only a year of owning it. Again, insurance paid out nearly what we paid and got her the SUV she's currently in and loves.

No plans to get another one soon. I'm sure we'll know when it's time. But for now, we are all good.

I have a 2011 4Runner with over 160,000 miles on it, and I could get to 300,00 with regular maintenance. Paint is starting to peel, have some rust spots here and there but it still runs great. Kids are getting bigger and the 4runner isn't going to work much longer. Going to get a new one end of next year. Probably a Bronco 4 door.

C'mon, man! This is the OT. You buy a truck, jack it up 9", add ridiculous aftermarket lights, an obnoxious train horn, loud as frick exhaust, low profile 40" tires with led lights inside the wheels, the biggest amp and subwoofers you can find, and finally a big old pair of brass truck nuts. Drive it around Central for a couple of months and then sell it to some HS kid and start over.

Thought that was pretty much standard practice.

Then hold strong. I tend to get rid of mine before they hit mileage milestones that would lower the trade in value and before they really start to go down. This was also before Covid and the insane bump in prices. Honestly with the prices of vehicles now just going to go straight Toyota for the foreseeable future to get the most reliability out of them.

Drive it until it dies. While doing that look up what a note on the next one you will want is. Start putting that money aside as if you are paying the note.

Mine has 186,000 on the clock…I’d love to pay someone to rebuild the motor and trans and interior, repaint the bitch and drive it forever…but I doubt anyone would take the job.

Say you pay cash for an older 1500 sized truck with 200k miles. Get one for 8k probably

Say the trans goes out. New trans installed is 4k

A year later the motor gives out. A crate engine installed with a 3 year warranty is 6-7k.

So if you buy a new truck for 70k and pay 800 a month or even more, that’s every bit of 10k per year.

If you keep that truck to full term it’s costing you 100k.

Long way to say for the average Joe buying a new truck in today’s economy without significant write off opportunities is a laughable investment.

I’m struggling mostly because I just see a vehicle as something to get from point a to point b. Never desired anything nice to overspend on.

Then buy another pos, no one cares. You’re fishing so you can press your dumbassery on those who appreciate nice cars.

And yet you brag about driving around with minimum liability limits. You’re so full of shite I can smell it all the way over here in Florida.

We typically rotated vehicles every 7 years, but have held on to our currents longer (mine hits 10 years "in service" this month [with 125k total miles] and wife's will hit 10 years in December [currently with 157k miles]).

They still run well and look good. Definitely getting her a new ride in the Spring. I'll probably get one in 25 unless forced to sooner.

Again. We can address this as many times as you want. Always paid cash for my vehicles, always carry minimum liability. Never in my life made an insurance claim. Up to me, I wouldn’t pay shite but following a bullshite law. Please explain to me why I should shovel more money to bitches that work in insurance. Are you one of those bitches????

When annual maintenance exceeds a reasonable amount. That amount isn’t a fixed point. With my next truck looking like it’ll be six figures, I just priced a boxed Coyote motor thinking I may go that route.

My trucks body is in good shape with no rust and only a couple small dings. I can’t see a good enough reason to replace it right now.

The value or purchase method of what you drive has zero to do with liability issues. Jesus.
