If you have anyone that you are married to or have kids, please try to do it for them. Just naming someone as independent executor makes life easier for them.

get cremated and throw your ashes in the lake or on a mantel costs $10k
getting buried in the ground costs an average of $25k-$30k

I lost my mind when my mom died and the woman at the funeral home told me if we had made arrangements before she died, the cost would have been significantly lower.
went the next week and pre-paid for my dad's funeral.
Need to be careful with this as well.
One of my grandfathers had done the pre-paid thing. Turns out it was just insurance. It provided a cash value. But the costs increased faster than the insurance value did.
So when he passed, basically we were told that they would do everything for the amount of the policy benefit, but that it would be a very basis funeral. When he pre-paid, he had selected various upgrades and we were basically told there was not enough money in the policy for that, so if we wanted the upgrades still they would need to be extra money thrown in.
If you read the fine print it does indeed say that but it sure isn't easy to figure out.

When planning a visit to NOLA or Chicago.

I will be 85 early nest month and have no formal plans. If the family was to ask, I would tell them to have me cremated and then drill a post hole on top of the hill in the wildlife plot north of the house and dump my ashes in there, then use the urn to raise plants. They can then water the plants by whichever means they prefer.

bought plots in my 40s. The cemetery where alot of my family is buried was full, one women decided to sell her 8 spaces so I bought them all for $400. I have all the way back to GGG grandparents there,

We bought ours a few years ago, mainly because there was a plot next to my wife's parents, and she wanted it before it got bought.

I thought this was gonna be a Blinded by the Light parody at first.

Mine did the same thing. Angers the hell out of me that they got roped into that silly shite.
The plots are probably worth 5-10x as much now and are typically transferable.
I created a database for a large cemetery down the river and dating back to the late 1800s the cost increased around 10% a year.

My mother pre paid her funeral and even selected her casket,I only had to pay about $1000.00 extra for things I chose to add.Really made it easy for me.
Wife and I have been talking about doing it,need to.

I’m completely with you on that. Just curious what is her argument?

Just for you to wash up on a beach a few week later and ruin someone’s vacation. Lol

Hopefully, it would happen to a funeral director. Just one more chance to give them the middle finger. No offense to any funeral directors that might post on here.
I just think that the way that a lot of them try to convince grieving family members that this is "one last chance to show your loved one how much they meant to you" is about the tackiest possible way to make a buck.

Personally I wanted to be cremated or whatever that water cremation is called.
If you have gone through losing a family member without a plan it is frustrating.
However the high pressure funeral plot salesmen will definitely push you to get cremated. Those guys are people who couldn't sell used cars.
If you are planning tell them you are buying your casket from Costco, which you can significantly cheaper. They might kick you out.

You created an account with the hope of one day being able to share this didn’t you?

Basically it should say that I battled Russian propogandists daily and fought hard for all Americans to get to experience the magic of cheese dip... Not that yellow crap out west. I'm talking about the real deal queso Blanco from your local El Toro loco, or mi hacienda, or Cinco hermanos tacos... Whatever Mexican restaurant it may be. All Americans deserve a taste of Mexican American queso Blanco.

My family has had a tomb for decades. I'll go into the family tomb

I’d say in your 50s.
As someone who just had to bury a parent who didn’t have anything planned (despite a multi-month terminal diagnosis) PLEASE do this for your kids or whomever will handle arrangements.
