My dad still only intermittently treats me like an adult. He doesn't think I can drive without his "coaching."

He asked if I was too old to be spanked. I said yes.

Wonder what he would have done if you said no.

I'm middle 30s and the youngest of 4 and he still treats me like I'm 12. I've always been his favorite.

Both of my parents did at the same time. I was 26 and married and we had borrowed money from them. About $5,000

My mom kept interjecting herself into things. One day we had it out and she said... "As long as you owe your day and I money then we have a say."

The next day I went to the bank and got a small loan. Drove to my parents house and gave them a check and said, "I no longer owe you money and you no longer have a say"

Things were really tense for about 6 mos after that, but things have been different ever since.

She is still very much in my siblings business.

I was about 12 and part of my responsibilities around the house was taking care of the yard work. I wake up one weekday morning in the summer and the neighbor kid is cutting MY yard. I went outside and told him to stop. He said he talked to my dad and he was supposed to do it. My pride was hurt. I told him I was going to beat his arse if he cut any more of my yard. I then finished cutting the grass and trimming and sweeping up afterwards.

That evening when the old man came home, he went next door to compliment the neighbor kid for doing a good job on our yard as it was the kid's punishment to work off the holed window that the kid had caused at our house with his BB gun. (All that unbeknownst to me).

The neighbor kid told him that he wasn't reponsible for the tended yard and that I ran him off under penalty of arse whup. So then the old man came home and told me I was an idiot and beat my arse and made me cut the neighbor's yard for not asking more questions.

Well not exactly, but I like to tell it that way. IRL he was very proud of me. After that, things were different between us.

tl/dr: "Get off my lawn!" -Me at age 12

I got married at 19, lived overseas and made my way for five years, had a son, and came back to the United States with my family when I was 24. He treated me like an adult at that point. Not that he doesn't have his moments here and there and I still always ask him for advice. He doesn't bullshite me though.

My dad and I threw down my sophomore year of college. He whooped my arse, it was a long time brewing.

Called me the next day for lunch, buds ever since.

For the most part my dad treats me like an adult except for when we are working on a project. That fricker will wear my arse out making me walk from the place we are working back to the shop to get tools

The first summer after college. I was established at my job so I moved out, took over all my expenses (cell, car insurance, school, everything)

He shook my hand and told me a line I'll never forget. "Enjoy never having a stress free moment again"

I'm 52.

Still treats me like a kid sometimes. Sometimes will introduce me as baby boy.

It's funny. He's good to me and kind.
