SW Virginia is still as southern as it gets

Had to go there for work. Most rural arse place I’ve ever seen and I live in the country. I drove almost a full hour without any form of Verizon signal through some back arse mountain roads.

You are correct those are some southern arse people.

DC is a cancer that spreads. Western Maryland and Eastern panhandle of WV are starting to get infected as well.

We took our vacation there 3 years ago Mouth of Wilson/Grayson Highlands State Park. Right on the NC line. It is a beautiful area. Camped at Grayson Highlands. Where we stayed in Mouth of Wilson was a converted barn loft that is an Airbnb. Hillside of Christmas trees across the road.

SW VA/NW NC is the Christmas tree capital of the world.

It's a Southern state except for the area within about 30 minutes of Washington DC.

I'd extend that out to 45 minutes but this is the correct take.

When people's entire perception about a state is based on how it voted for president, it's just ditzy and uninformed.

West Virginia was never pro-union. It was half and half. The eastern counties didn't want to join the Union. And WV sent equal amounts of soldiers to the confederacy and union.
