So many of the greatest had long hair in the 70's and 80's and 90's.

For example:

Lynyrd Skynyrd

Look at pictures of the Beatles taken throughout the 60s and you can see when hippie-ish appearance became popular.

1966-67

Without doing any digging, I remember musicians being called longhairs before the Beatles came along. I always assumed they were talking about symphony musicians, but I guess it could have been bohemians with a ducktail. Ask on the music board. I bet Kafka would know.

Professor Longhair was born In 1918.

He was active in music 1948-1980

He greatly resembles the poster known as Super Saint.

Can we get a side-by-side of Professor Longhair and Lootie? I'm not saying Heineken is the fountain of youth, but the circumstantial evidence is glaring.

While others may have had long hair here and there, the question of when it became popular has to be answered with in the mid 60s thanks to the Beatles. They are the greatest influencers and innovators of musical sound, style, and music methodology of all time.
