Maybe God realizes you don't really believe.

Read Psalm 37:4. When we learn to rid ourselves of the desires of our flesh and align our desires with the Lord, then he will give us the desires of our hearts.

I'm more guilty than anyone of living my life like I want to and asking God for things when I need Him. Unfortunately, that ain't how it works.

My yoke is easy and light. This is not my experience. That has to be considered when considering a test. I have no idea how to reconcile my yoke is easy and light with what I've experienced personally.

As for getting what you need and not what you want, that's a Rolling Stones song. Not scriptural.

400 years ago a black man in Africa prayed to God to "not let this Muslim man enslave me". But the Muslim enslaved him from his hometown and brought him to the coast to sell. That black man's great great great great great grandson is now being converted to be a Muslim by the Muslim enslavers great great great great great grandson. Tell me prayer doesn't work.

Islam religion is the "man who keeps blacks down by kidnapping them out of their hometowns to sell on the coast". White people to do not keep the black man down nearly as much as Muslims do.

I do believe. But, an aggregation of unanswered prayers makes one consider God in a new light.

I think that when I reach the point that God becomes more of the wise grandparent figure to me and less the rich stepdad figure then I will have gotten closer to understanding the reason for prayer.

God works in mysterious ways. This is my go to answer anytime I can't explain anything. It usually happens when I breath through my mouth for a long time.

Without diving off into a full blown sermon on a discussion board... All I can tell you is not to give up on Him.. because He will certainly never give up on you, brother.

Prayer is a tricky thing. We pray for what we want or what we think we need, while I truly believe God knows and understands our needs a lot better. I absolutely believe that prayer works. I also believe that science and medicine work. I do believe one trumps the other. I believe that there is a lot of sadness and suffering in this world, but I think it is up to us to do the good needed to help rectify some of those situations. We don't live in a perfect world, and we can't expect everything to go our way or every one of our prayers to be answered. That's not life. I've lost a lot in my life, but every single one of those losses has brought me back to prayer and back to a better relationship with God, so it is easy for me to find the purpose in the loss. I'm not sure what you're praying for, but I hope you find answers and I hope you're willing to look for them.

There is currently no mechanism to study any supernatural claim.

Does prayer work??? Of course not. But if it makes you feel better then believe that it does.

I on the other hand would rather beleive as many true things as possible.

Sometimes the answer is Not Right Now. Maybe he wants you to work a little harder

I really dont know anymore. My family has been hit hard over the past few years with really bad luck. I was at my breaking point around this time last year. I had been praying to God not for a miracle or even any help but just not any more damage. On Christmas Eve we had another really shitty thing happen. I wont go into details other than to say it cost us thousands of dollars at time when we were already pretty desperate. I know others have been through much worse and maintained their faith but ever since then I cant seem to bring myself to pray anymore.

As for the Lord working in mysterious ways, and the yoke being light and easy, what about every apostle dying a martyr's death except Luke?
