Way over my head, but I have cursory knowledge of what you’re talking about because I do the quick analysis and it’ll give the names of the openings. I just play by instinct, but I’m sure I’d develop my game quite a bit if I put a bit more effort into it. Just seems like an awful lot to remember.

Anyone can understand these concepts. You don't have to be some genius, you just have to make time for practice.

New Dynamism: The current paradigm in chess. A reaction to computers making all the "right" moves. Basic idea is to be unexpected, opening up new avenues of attack.

Open game: Lots of space. Good for tactics.
Closed game: No space. Good for taking and holding positions.

Vienna game: Old opening characterized by 1. e4 e5 2. Nc3
Sicilian defense: Even older opening characterized by 1. e4 c5

Do you ever play while you're fishing for Bluefin tuna just a few miles out of Tampa?

It's kind of meaningless if you don't give time controls and what player pool's rating you are using. A USCF is going to mean some different than FIDE than chess.com than lichess than yahoo.

My USCF rapid chess rating is 1388.

Not too long back i was listening to Joe Rogans podcast with Lennox Lewis and he was talking about how he loves chess and his buddy or handler was there and was bragging on him and i was like this guy must be pretty good (2000+) and i went and found his chess.com account and he was sub 1200.

Any chessbrah fans in here? Naka, John B., chessnetwork etc?
I'll watch Eric if Yasser is around. Those two are hilarious together. Otherwise I'll tune in to the Hambone if I see him on. John's videos have been a huge help lately.

Only just recently got into trying to improve beyond knowing the absolute basics. Currently rated 976.

What do you feel about the 960 variant Fischer came up with?

Vienna is my no. 1 when playing white. I try to transpose to the delayed King's Gambit while avoiding the Falkbeer but in some lines I'm forced to play straight Vienna game. As black against e5 I usually offer Alekhine's but the declines are pretty drawish. I'm happy with drawish until someone shows me they know the endgame.
