Boy that sucks. I hope nobody was hurt, but this is really putting a clamp on my day!

Do people not look at google maps/waze before getting on the road? I can't believe this many people still get stuck in this type of traffic with the technology we have today.

Do you think checking Google will magically fix the traffic?
I did check Google maps, chucklehead, and I’m plotting an alternate route. Maybe you’re not from here, but the number of routes Eastbound into N.O. are severely limited. A major shut down, not just a slow down, fricks all traffic.

Thankfully this always makes the alternate routes smooth sailing.

You look at google maps or waze every time you drive somewhere?

Obviously not, chucklehead. But you can figure out how to get around it.
Also, "what's with the traffic cluster fxxx" is a very google-able question, baw.

Always always always check google maps or waze before hitting LaPlace so you know if you need to jump on Airline when entering NO eastbound. I have saved myself countless hours sitting on the 1-10 spillway with this simple strategy.

If I'm driving to/through typical high traffic areas, absolutely.
Surface streets not so much.

What are you, 13 years old? Did you take a smart-arse pill today?
Since you MUST know, I did check Google maps well before hitting Laplace.
I then googled various renditions of “I-10 traffic Metairie”, “road closures I-10”, etc. it was like researching life’s greatest mysteries. Lots of hits, nothing relevant?
Have YOU tried googling stuff lately? It’s pretty hit or miss, in case you’re unaware.
So I went to my on-line, all-knowing, internet community of Tiger fans, and I got an answer in less than 30 seconds.
I’m pretty sure I’ll check the OT first next time, and skip the Google search.

There was also discussion of a vehicle going into the canal at the same spot. Last I heard, just after 8am, the Sheriff's Office was investigating to determine if they would do a search.

This again and again.
The OT is usually faster and more accurate.

Following the @NOLA_Traffic DOTD account on Twitter and setting alerts when coming through town has been helpful to me...info is usually pretty quick after incidents

Sounds like you're just bad a googling.

Where do you think they got the answer?

I currently don't have any other first world problems to complain about so, pretty much.
