“Why do you care what other people listen to?”
Also, how do you feel about jam bands?

Ah yes let’s listen to a 30-year range of music from an extinct genre until the end of time.

think we live in a different world, compared to the average college student. The things I find crazy about modern American culture, gender identities for example, are their normal.

So mumble rap can get women horny but not van halen? What bizarro world are we living in?
The present? I don’t like mumble rap either but would you expect young girls to have gone crazy about best 1960s music in the 1990s? It’s all about what is considered mainstream.

I’ll use the local BR scene as an example. There’s multiple shoegaze-ish inspired bands like Wonderkid, diyho, Modern Healthcare, and The Nocturnal Broadcast.
For the fuzzy punky route, there’s Loudness War, Baby in the 90’s, and oh, hi mark.
For the jazzy route, there’s Alabaster Stag and Ria Rosa.
For metal, there’s Swamp Stank, Raise the Death Toll, Ventruss, and Forming the Void.

quote:Different genres. People who listened to crooners in the 80's absolutely did listen to ones from 40 years before. They still do.
Y’all do realize those bands are now over 40 years old, right? Were kids in the 80’s listening to 1940’s big band crooners?

Uhh the sorority sloots loved Journey and Bon Jovi in the early 2000's

They don't make music or movies like they used to make them. It's sad, but luckily we can always listen to and watch the old stuff.
I think more people listen to bands like the ones you mentioned much more than you think. Just because the radio plays awful music now doesn't mean that people don't know/listen to the good stuff.

Because rock takes actual skill. Drums, guitar, keyboard, etc. I like some rap, but the new gen of rap is crap. They all sound alike. New country is abysmal.

Yes. Mumble rap hits different when drunk. It’s made to grind to. Van Halen is not. If I am at a party with a bunch of drunk 20-something white girls, I have a substantially better chance of getting laid if the stereo is playing migos than Van Halen. These are facts. This would not be the case if I was at a place with a bunch of 40-50 year old cougars. They say they want hair metal and country, but cougars go nuts for DMX and Lil John. I know this from over 10 years as a musician in bars.

What does any of this have to do with 35 year old baws who have to drown you in mumble rap or bro country in the truck or on the boat?

The 80’s were retro cool in the mid/late 2000’s, just as the 70’s were retro cool in the early 2000’s/late 90’s and the 60’s retro cool in the early 90’s. That is over, and the 80’s are back to being silly, lame, and dated.
Right now, 90’s hiphop is what is retro cool.
Fyi, those early 2000’s sorority girls are now the 40 year old cougars at the cover band bar.

That music is played to attract drunk b$&@/es to said truck or boat, just like a 70’s El Camino would roll up blasting Foghat.
