When I'm playing, I don't want chains, beards, or anything other than the uniform.

Why do all these baseball players wear chains? They and rappers are the only guys I see wear them. What’s the deal? This isn’t a normal fashion piece for men today.
I agree. But watch all professional athletes outside of games. You’ll notice an overwhelming abundance of professional athletes that love their jewelry.
The difference is not all sports allow it during games, and among those that do, baseball is probably the most casually paced game where adorning their bodies with attention getting bling does not impact their performance.
So it comes down to athletes probably crave attention at a higher rate than the average male, and they play in a sport that allows it.

MLB trying to copy travel ball fashion.

I always thought this was wild, but then I remember playing senior league and losing my name chain diving for a ball.
I think that in general its just the thing to do. Very duechy though.

I wear a chain and a lanyard with a Scottish cross. So that’s two “necklesses” I wear.

What else are they going to spend it on? Retirement savings, investments, children’s education, philanthropy?

This sounds correct. Thanks.

Idk, I remember South American soccer players used to wear them. Some of those areas like baseball too.

Another very plausible explanation. Thank you.

We already have on my sons 14u team. Pissed off some moms but have defined the culture and you either buy in or GTFO.

Started with travel ball. It’s all about who can out accessorize others to show their spending more money in an effort to be D1. Meanwhile some poor kid in Mexico or South America could outplay them any day of the week.

And the chain wearing is not just baseball players.
Every male under 25 at my gym you can count having broccoli hair or ‘Jew fro’, a gold chain, and dirty white sneakers with white crew socks.
