I overheard some guy say this to someone just recently. The young victim obliged, so I stopped and observed.

Eventually the criminal handed the phone back and said he wasn’t able to get in touch with his friend, said he deleted the text, and left.

So I asked the victim to check his payment apps. He looked nervous, checked his apps and said it didn’t look like the other guy could find the apps because he had too many.

So I’m thinking what you described is the conversation starter. The next step is to say they can’t find the address, and do you mind if I text a friend? This enables them to visibly do more keystrokes and buy more time while draining your payment app.
