Upvoted you, because I have a similar system, and it works as you have described.
It's the most effective option, by far.

I had one the the mosquito magnets. It didn't work well for me.
Other than the mist systems the best thing I found is any bug killer concentrate with permethrin and spray the entire yard and everything else in the yard.

I put in a mosquito misting system. The company that makes the system is called MistAway. It is a plastic 55 gallon drum with a 1/2 hp motor that sits on top. It also has a computer system that allows custom programming of times and lengths of mists.

Call your local pest company or a company such as mosquito joe. You pay $60 every 21 days or so and they come out at fog your yard/bushes. It kills all mosquitoes but they do have to come back and spray again in 21 days to kill newly born mosquitoes. Definitely worth the $.

Thermacell works well. I break it out for when people are over and it seems to do the trick. Order it from Amazon.
Also citronella tiki torches made out of beer bottles and a table fan seem to work well.

They did a study and found people of Mediterranean decent have the most attractive blood to mosquitos.
Do they sweat more? Mosquitoes love BO.

This or malathion, which you can get just about anywhere.

They only bite my ankles, and I'm mostly white. When I do get bitten, the bites go away in about 10 minutes.
Food odor is the number one attractant for mosquitoes.

Bifenthrin. Buy the concenrate online, e.g. Amazon.com, then spray your yard, house, garage and anything else a mosquito might touch.
You'll want to spray when it's not expected to rain for the next few days.
You can also buy a premade mix of this at Home Depot or Walmart, but it's significantly more expensive per concentration.
In theory, the bifenthrin should kill for weeks, but rain will decrease the duration of action.
Malathion effectively kills all bugs, but only for two or three days following spraying.
