as a kid i lived within walking distance from the river in st bernard. had friends who lived probably a block from the levee. we swam in the river all the time but, stayed close to the bank because of the horror stories about the speed of the current.
As a kid we had a hunting camp on an island in the Ms River just south of Vicksburg. We used to take our boats and go to the sand bars in the summer time. One of my friends took his dad's mastercraft. He put in at Vicksburg instead of across the river on the Louisiana side. We were trying to back to Vicksburg and even though the boat was at pull power, we were going backwards. Ended up having to beach it and walk three miles though the woods to get our hunting camp and "borrow" someone's hunting truck that they left over there to drive back to Vicksburg to get his truck and his trailer. That current is no joke.

Shortly after purchasing my first yacht, I sailed alone (okay, i had a couple bodyguards, my captain, and a couple other low level staffers on board but I digress) from Sydney to the Falkland Islands.

I had some relatives go to some exotic South Pacific islands and kill some Japs.
My grandfather was in Egypt and the Middle East during World War II, which was a big adventure for a country boy who had previously never been farther than an hours drive away from their house.
An aunt and uncle of mine went all over Eastern Europe back in the 1970's.
I had a teacher in high school who visited the Soviet Union back in the mid 1970's.

my parents used to cross the belle chase ferry every day for work. I thought about this collision every day they left the house.
83 sounds about right. i remember stories of people one the levee who could see people trapped in cars floating down the river. how horrifying would that be?

Have a friend (Asian/female/hot/no pics) who ran with the bulls in Pamplona. Also did one of those Catholic missionary walks alone across Spain with no food or money - relying only strangers to give food/shelter. She’s not even Christian

My wife and I took a 3 week trip from NOLA to Atlanta to Nashville to Des Moines to Minneapolis to Billings to Livingston, Montanta (North of Yellowstone) where we stayed for 4 days to Denver to Austin and then back to NOLA. It was a trip of a lifetime. Over 110 hours in the car worth of driving and worth every second!

no shite, a buddy and I drove down there right after the accident and watched them pulling up vehicles, I have pictures somewhere, we didn't have binoculars and my shitty little camera was a Kodak 110, but we could see bodies in some of the vehicles, left an impression

My dad did a trip along the amazon in the 70s.
Said it was hard to grasp, surreal, that he was the first non-tribal person some he came across ever met/seen.

I met a guy last week on an airplane who was flying to meet his wife in southern Mexico. They lived in Humboldt county California (northern california) and his wife was riding her bike from there all the way to the tip of South America. She went to Cabo San Lucas and then flew to Mexico City with her bike and then continued to ride south.
Once she gets to the bottom of South America she's going to fly to Cape Town and travel north all the way through Africa.
I can't really think of anything more adventurous than someone doing this solo. I mean how crazy would that trip be?

Not on par with some of the others offered here, but I and 3 others sailed a 27' boat from Destin to St. Pete to Key West to Key Largo to Key West and across the Gulf back to Destin.

i had four friends in college drive a truck, trailer, and party barge up to st louis. one of their dad's drove the truck and trailer home and they floated the party barge back to baton rouge. it was a 6-7 day trip and all they did was drink the entire time. they stopped a few times along the way for supplies. it sounded like a great time.
