Longest, around 20 years. Export contractor. Got out of it when the Middle East start feeling unsafe (I know….I know, it’s all relative though)
Shortest - worked at an arcade for about 6 months while I was in college

I haven’t had a real job except for my short stint as a lawyer. I’ve been thinking about reaching out to PI firms in Lafayette to see if they would hire me to be a runner/paralegal/potential re-enter the bar.
Saw 1/2 of Laborde/Earles at a softball game today I was covering. I wanted to go up and ask for a job.

This was during the great recession (2009 actually), but I got laid off in March and by May I still couldn't find anything so I applied for a job with the state... It was for the department that handles shite after things like hurricanes or any type of disaster.. The job description was named something different than what it was. It required advanced skills in Excel and Access.
I went take the state test an all. Went on the interview, went through this whole process and got the job. They told me an another new hire to go on a certain day, they gave us a summary of the job and our schedule. My first day was schedule on a Friday from 6PM - 6AM. It was just me and this other girl who the manager told me was going in at a certain time and would be leaving a little early. I get there and the girl leaves like 2 hrs in. Im there for 10 hrs by myself.
Not a single call, nothing, I watched TV and I think posted on here. There were a few things that had to be done but no one showed me so I had to just figure it out.
Saturday night same time. I get there and the girl leaves so I am there 12 hrs alone. At one point there were several calls, faxes coming through about 3 hrs into it I said frick it. I didn't answer calls, didn't log into some bullshite. The manager calls my cell and leaves a message to call her ASAP. I waited until about 5 mins before the next shift came in and emailed the manager, told her my badge is on her desk, a good manager would not leave a new employee to do a job alone for 12 hrs. Thanked her for wasting my time and I was done.
She tried to call me 3 or 4 times and I didn't answer. So the shortest was 2 days.

I’ve been a stay at home mom on and off for 18 years - but I’m sure that’s not considered a ‘real job’
So for ‘real’ jobs - 5 years the longest, three months the shortest

My second job out of college was manager trainee at an Aaron Rents store in Addison, TX. I went in after the first week to see if I needed to give two weeks notice. He told me no, but talked me into staying, for another week. I called him one morning and said "You know you told me I don't need to give two weeks notice, well I'm not comin back in.
I had lost my first job out of college, selling sanitation supplies for a manufacturers rep company. that lost some territory. I'd only been there for six months and was the shortest tenured salesman. It was the first time I'd been without a job since I started stuffing inserts for a weekly newspaper in sixth grade. I kind of freaked out, and took the Aaron Rents job after only looking for three days.
I quit the Aaron Rents job the week before Christmas. I took my time looking after that. Spent nearly a month looking. Found the job selling print advertising. Stayed there 26 years. Would probably still be there if I hadn't had to retire early for health reasons.
