Minneapolis when I was younger was the coldest, without question. Don’t recall exact air temperature, because I was in first grade (1996), but it was near -45 without the wind chill for two days. Insane.
Chicago in 2014 was bad. We had multiple days of -20 actual temperature and -45 with the wind chill.
Today is, probably, the second-worst I’ve experienced. Currently -21 with -50 wind chill.

I think minus -20 or so. Was living in Northern Ohio at the time

Twin Cities 2014. Actual temp -19. I forget the wind chill. That's get in your car, and drop Fbombs until the heater can kick on weather.

Last couple winters, excluding past few days, have been mild in Chicago. Besides, this is an anamoly and I really enjoy spring, summer and fall.

I’d never seen the inside of a car window ice over til then. It was so damn cold the moisture in your breathe would freeze.

About -20 in Nebraska
Same. I think the lowest we got was -26 on a goose hunt in western Nebraska. The distant sandhills did next to nothing to block that brutal wind. It was one of the coldest and windiest days I've been in. It was miserable.

When winter temperatures are average, you don’t need more than a coat over anything you’re wearing underneath. It’s not as much of a chore as you make it seem. Lol.

Probably about -15 maybe -10 in 2007 allentown pa area. Got minor frostbite shoveling snow for my sister. Coldest I was for an extended period of time was single digits working outside for a few hours in a rail yard in Pittsburgh PA. Butit got so hot working I actually took off my jacket and just wore a heavy insulated sweat shirt gloves and a hat.

When it’s -20 you damn well better wear more than one layer.
But you do get acclimated. The first winter I was in NY we wore shorts when it got up to the 30’s. We’d been so used to subzero temps that 30 felt like a heatwave.

Obviously, but that’s not an “average winter temperature.” Not even close.

Probably here in Louisville in 1994. That January we got about 17 inches of snow in a 24-hour period. A couple days later we had actual surface temperatures of -22. Also the first time I ever heard/saw thundersnow.

I have been in -25 degree weather two years ago at my Grandmas lakehouse in Northern Wisconsin for Christmas. We went ice fishing every day up there and I kind of miss it again. The coldest I have seen where I live is 11 degree weather in central Georgia.

When I finally came off the mountain and got back to my apartment in Germany, I was driving to the store and everyone had on heavy jackets, scarves, etc. and I was in jeans and a tshirt. I looked at the temp and it was 38 outside. It honestly felt nice outside to me.
But three months below freezing with most of the temps being below zero will do that to you.

I was in Montana once where it was 3 during the day and -20 at night. Still didn't feel as cold as being in Minneapolis when it was -10. That was the coldest air / wind I ever felt
