re: What’s the biggest waste of money item you’ve spent money on in your younger years?

My real estate choices have been poor. I've easily lost money over 16-17 years of home ownership. Maybe slightly less than if I'd have rented, but not by much.

Honeymoon.
Spent like $6000 going to Sandals in the Bahamas in November. My wife and I didn’t really drink that much, so we really spent that much to frick and eat at some halfway decent restaurants in a large hotel resort.
Add in the $5000 I spent on the engagement ring, and one could say I spent a total of $11,000 to get laid for a week.

Bought our first house at the height of the real estate market (pre-08) and sold it for a loss. Second house has easily cost us as much or more in maintenance than we've gained in equity.

Timeshare to a place in central Alabama. Thought I would swap it out to other locations, but didn’t. Finally the place closed and I’m free of the maintenance fees

TD Premium. Both the t-shirt and the huggie sucked.

Booze. I don't want to know how much I used to spend.

Drugs. I don't want to even imagine the dollar amount.
I've upgraded to expensive booze instead.

All of the cassette tapes I bought while I was in high school.
You actually paid for cassette tapes? I ripped off Columbia House repeatedly or kleptoed them from the K-Mart.

In my early college years - I rented a costume for a sucky Halloween party - it was way more expensive than I thought it would be - and I paid for my friend and her brother too - they of course didn’t pay me back
We took a loss on a house that we bought too - but that doesn’t bother me as much bc we lived there for a long time and have so many good memories - it just sucked to know how much money was just lost - like it was nothing

Being stupid and not slipping on a $0.75 condom to bang a random chick my sophomore year in college. That stupidity cost me approximately $180,000 in child support payments over a 19 year span plus the unknown amount of paying lawyers and court cost fighting that greedy bitch.
You young baws, take note of my stupidity and wrap it up every single time you go for a dip in the pool!
