These threads are fascinating. So many differing points of view. They can be bucketed into a few general themes but it’s intriguing what posters believe are the drivers to society.
Like most subjects discussed on this board, the posters POV is based on their opinion which is based entirely off anecdotal evidence they have experienced at some point in their lives, or an opinion they heard someone else say.
So what has destroyed modern society according to this thread?
China
Sex
Entitlements
Libs
Social media
Lack of families
Kids these days
Immorality
Lack of the bible specifically
Lack of accountability
Political correctness
Gays
Narcissism
Did I forget any? Can any of this be measured in any meaningful way or is everyone just regurgitating what they hear on Fox every night?
Quality of life in terms of health have never been greater than they are today, which is very provable outside of my own personal opinion

quote:Media filth taught us long ago that books aren't "cool." Long ago, the ignorant masses simply didn't read. Now they proudly don't read. Most folks are simple and will do what most effectively drives them, and nothing drives people like media.
I agree with much of this but we are lazy. There are thousands, THOUSANDS of great books out there but we don't read that much anymore.
And books are media too, of course. It's not like they can't spread garbage as well.

Myspace was great until parents and grandparents decided they wanted to be on.
Being able to customize your page, especially if you were in a band was great.

The internet created the following scourge:
Porn on demand
Facebook
Instagram
Twitter
Explain to me how any of that addictive crap is good for our society.

How has watching porn had any impact whatsoever on our society? Please provide statistics rather than your own personal anecdote

If you honestly believe that the majority of young men that should be in their prime today spending their time watching porn that our grandparents couldn't even fathom instead of actually living life and socializing with real women doesn't have a negative effect on society, I guess there won't be any convincing you otherwise. The majority of young men are addicted to porn not socializing with women? You got anything whatsoever to back this up? You are just proving my point. This is 100% your opinion based on absolutely nothing.

There's a path that's optimally successful for the majority of people.(old school nuclear family, everyone plays their role)
However, most take the "I want" path, which leads to a significantly lower amount of success for the most people.

The first porn I ever watched was dug out from the bottom of my grandparent's closet.
