4Runner has to be one of the best in retaining value than any vehicle made. Try getting a dealer to negotiate on a used 4Runner in good shape 3-5 years old, it won’t happen. Also, buying new makes sense with these as a good used one isn’t that much cheaper than new.

Well at least someone finally listed a SUV.

Thank you. I lol whenever I hear someone call their front wheel drive lifted unibody frame car an SUV.

You have a point. I was mainly referring to price vs a similarly equipped model of another brand. The reliability is definitely an unknown at this point, but the 6 yr / 72k mi warranty somewhat helps to offset that.

4Runner is great, but does it ft the "bang for your buck theme?"

I shopped for one recently and it's hard not to shell out a ton even for an older model.

Unless you can say a 150k 4Runner is better than a 70k Mazda for instance - then maybe so.

15-20 years ago, everyone had a 4runner. I’d guess it was right there with the Explorer as best selling suv.

Nowadays, I can’t tell you the last time I saw one on the road. No matter what your opinion of a crossover is, I doubt the 4Runner is the most bang for your buck suv.

My wife and I are currently shopping for something a little bigger.

We are looking at the Hyundai santa Fe and the VW Atlas.

The Grand Cherokee gets a ton of flack from people confusing it with the Jeep Cherokee, which is a shitbox.

It gets a ton of flak just like every other Mopar product does bc of their problems 20 years ago. I do like the JGCs a lot, but have a friend who had a really bad experience with one. So bad, jeep actually bought it back.

Other friends with them haven't had a problem with them at all.

4Runner and Jeep Grand Cherokee are about the only "affordable" true SUVs left.

One is a giant pile of unreliability, and the other is a Toyota.

FTR I really do like the interior and exterior of the JGC.

Hard to beat a Toyota tho.
Can’t argue with the choices.

As to the Jeep Grand Cherokee: I have a ‘14 JGC bought new 1/14- 137k on it now.

ZERO issues, front brake pads and tires at 90k, regular oil changes at 10k intervals.

(Rotate tires at every oil change, rebalance tires every other oil change)

25.5 MPG over the lifetime of the vehicle. 3.6 V6, the ‘14 MY’s only powerplant.

I’ll get one more year from it, 4Runner is on the short list to replace it except no adaptive cruise/lane keeping/etc suite.

That could be a deal-breaker, I love adaptive cruise control.

In ‘14 the Jeep GC was $31k.

While the LC is the goat, should an $85k SUV be considered in the bang for your buck discussion?

Maybe in LA... but I see 4Runners all over the place. I don't keep track or anything, but I'd bet it's one of the 3 or 4 most common SUVs on the road in Baton Rouge.
