I'd legit say highlander FYI if we aren't talking "real" SUVs.
I love my Ford Edge Sport, but if I'm going for bang for the buck, I want 3 rows and consider Toyota reliability. My Edge has some cool tech imports don't have, but I haven't had it long enough.

I like the CRV and the Forester. Both small. If you want a real SUV, not a car, and a vehicle that will never break and you care not about MPGs, go buy a Toyota 4Runner. Look at the reliability record on them since the turn of the 21st century. Unreal.

4Runner and Jeep Grand Cherokee are about the only "affordable" true SUVs left.
One is a giant pile of unreliability, and the other is a Toyota.
FTR I really do like the interior and exterior of the JGC. Hard to beat a Toyota tho.

How does anyone know this? It hasn't been around long enough. They could literally all fall apart at 50k miles and we wouldn't know yet.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk

Damnit, couldn't remember if it was a Highlander or a Pilot.

The newer Jeeps catch a ton of unwarranted flak, but then again there are people who still think Hyundai is unreliable.
From an aesthetics and actual sport standpoint, the JGC is the best IMO. There are vehicles that are more reliable, but JGCs are plenty good enough.

Depends what you want the SUV for.

SMH The Trackhawk has to be in the running for the WORST band for the buck SUV.
When you are talking bang for the buck you can forget the high lines.
Mid-sized X-overs would be the Highlander and Pilot
Mid-sized body on frame its the 4-Runner, but unless you actually need a body on frame SUV which few do it loses to the crossovers in the bang for buck area.

The current JGC isn't a bad vehicle. Same Pentastar V6 as the Wrangler and Ram, and the ZF 8 speed is one of the best transmissions on the market and is quite overbuilt for a mid size SUV. The Grand Cherokee gets a ton of flack from people confusing it with the Jeep Cherokee, which is a shitbox.

I'd say the "Rav 4" has the tightest tail pipe.

Dude, I know. I was really just joking. 707hp and AWD sure is nice though. However, 90+k isn't. For that money I'd take a Z06 with the Z07 package, but we're talking about SUVs here.

It is one of the least reliable mid-sized SUVs, if reliability isn't much of a priority then it doesn't matter.
With aesthetics de gustibus non est disputandum.
As for sport there are certainly a lot of SUVs that objectively beat the JGC in most every category.
It is certainly a decent vehicle but one has to choose it based on a lot of subjective criteria, which is fine, as we all include varying degrees of subjective criteria in our buying decisions. The OP ask for bang for the buck which usually weighs heavily on cost to own which is not the Grand Cherokees string suit.

The interior of the 4 Runner is so crappy and plain for the money.

Range Rover Sport

It is rather plain for the money, though the materials are on par for the price.
