The paintball place near where I grew up had RULE 1: if you enter the playing area, do not remove your helmet mask thing.

If you did, you sat out a round. That rule would have helped here.

Wear a frickin mask.

I can answer this question. I do not think he was hit in the eye by a paintball.

I think there was a busted paintball in his gun and he got some paint coming out at high velocity that got on his face/eye/forehead area.

If he had taken a paintball point blank to the eyeball, this is would have occurred.

A horrible instant of realization that the entire trajectory of your life just changed, that your military recruitment just went away, and that you will never be whole again. Followed by the searing pain as your eyeball explodes like a squished grape.

The paintball doesn't even bust, because your eyeball is softer and squishier. Your nice little orb in your head that's been there since birth, the hazel eyes that people said looked nice.

POP!

Lens destroyed, every blood vessel Burst, your eye fills with blood. There's nothing you can do except grab your eye and scream bloody murder. Because you are ruined.

This is not a "take some drops" fix

This is a "we have to scoop all the jelly out from your ruined eye in an attempt to laser it back together so you don't have a glass eye."
