Isn’t it six of one and half dozen of another?

The “pay this amount” is what matters. If there is no markup on parts or I supply them I assume it is on me if the part is bad or goes bad in a week.

As a consumer, I would rather know that I’m paying for the expertise than to know I can get the parts cheaper myself.

20-30%, especially if he gets from a supply house that gives him a discount. Delivery fee should be baked into that.

But it also depends how quickly he came and how much easier it made your life.

He arrives, walks in, opens the fridge, closes it, goes to breaker box, flips on breaker, opens fridge, sees light on and writes my wife a bill for $120.

sounds like you didn't pay him for resetting the breaker, but for knowing which breaker to reset...

Just because the tech/company gets discount doesn’t mean the customer deserves one.

$25 covers his hour round trip and $10 worth or fuel.

What kind of business owner or skilled tradesman drives around town picking up parts for $15/hr and gas money?

If it's a $2 part, then up to a 10,000% markup. If it is fairly distant. His time is valuable. Time is the only real commodity if you think about it.

Yeah, it's all about the time it takes.

As a shop owner, a $3 key copy you need ASAP can come to $23 with the hourly wage of one the kids that goes to get it.

Sure if you're a repair guy/company you're always trying to find ways to balance stuff like this out but an hour labor + an hour to get a $5 part is 2 hours.
