paperwork on engine and trans work?

This. Who rebuilt the engine and tranny? A reputable shop will have the paperwork.

My guess is that he will claim he spent $4000 on the engine and trans and $3000 on wheels and tires.

The body looks good, but i would check it our thoroughly. Google where rust is common on that model. If the interior is crap, that means they didn't take care of the exterior either.

If the 4WD works, and it has proper paperwork, maybe 4K tops.

If he can't produce paperwork for the rebuilds, walk away. His friend Bubba rebuild those in his garage with tools from Advance Auto...while drunk.

It makes no sense that the engine and transmission are rebuilt after just 170k miles.

I've got 280k on my 2000 Silverado and done nothing to the engine or transmission, still original and still go anywhere in it.

I would be leery. That one has been ragged out.

I sold my 99 Chevy Silverado 4x4 truck in pretty damned good condition with 100k miles for like 2,500 five years ago. I know a Tahoe, especially a 2 door, is sought after, but at 10k, you could buy a 2006 with 100k miles and weld the back doors shut.

xterior looks great (black), and it has new off-road tires.

I could almost guarantee you They have the outside looking sharp because something isn't right under the hood.

At least make sure you have the bicycle with you, so you have a way to get back home.
