Say 17-18 hours book time for a long block at $150 an hour. $2700

Long Block Mitchel part guide $4800 roughly

$7500 plus taxes and miscellaneous fees for fluids, shop supplies, etc. Even with labor being possibly higher 10K seems kind of steep. See if you can get a breakdown for any extra parts or labor I'm missing. Every job is different, so there may be more into your job but I'd like to see where the extra $2000 is.

Go to the closest salvage yard and pick up a compatible engine with limited milage for just a fraction of a "new engine" price, or find a rebuild for a good price. DON'T pay a 600. diag fee.

Well this is illegal unless it’s some very specialized weird warranty you got

Not technically. They can offer the standard warranty and an extension of the standard would be lifetime warranty if you get the service done at the dealer. I have it on my truck beyond the standard warranty that Ford provides.

That rule is for new car warranty example 3 year / 36,000 miles for most vehicles. What he is talking about is the additional warranty after that Matt Bowers itself offers you for free. It's like a free extended warranty but come with stipulations of you bringing your vehicle in for oil changes and transmission fluid changes at their facility only. Totally legal in this case unfortunately for poster.

If it's a written warranty it must comply with Magnusson-Moss (it actually covers some implied warranties as well).

Check around for a service shop that locates and
installs engines from wrecked vehicles. I did and got an engine with similar mileage to my Honda that had a blown engine,

Going strong 50,000 miles later.

Dealer wanted 6500 wrecked cost me 2500,

You can get an engine from a salvage dealer for a whole lot less than that, and they will even replace it for you.

And probably $2k in labor.

Lol, I think you guys are smoking dope. Maybe from a shade tree, maybe.

My local dealership is now $185/ hour. I've had 2 damn work vehicles that both needed dealership computer reprogramming no one else would do locally.

I would absolutely get multiple quotes outside of the dealership for a new engine though and I'm sure they will all beat the stealership.

Pay $10k+ and get a new engine.

Seems high on price.

1.5 years ago priced out a newly rebuilt Hemi for my Ram...$11k installed from 3 different locations. It's in the ball park.

I'm betting it's a Ram. If so, no need to break it down, it's the lifters eating the cam. It can't be fixed with the original block as metal has made it all throughout the engine.

Even if not a Ram metal has made it all through the engine, bearings etc...

Sorry but it's a new engine or a new truck.

ETA Doh...Just saw it's a Chevy 4 cylinder...Still, new truck or new engine.

Factory warranty on the Turbomax is 5 years/100k according to Chevrolet’s website. Not sure if that’s the updated 2022+ models or all of them from 2019 on.

OP shouldn’t be paying a dime if he’s under warranty. If you are somehow out of warranty, I would absolutely get a second opinion.

Where are you seeing this?

Edit: I see. Looks like it just applies to 2024 engines. Insane

Did you take it to the dealership? If so, they quoted you a new longblock. Check prices on a reman, if the engine is 4 years old, they may be available. Find a trusty shop to do the work, not a dealership. You'll probably save 30% and get a really similar warranty.
