I just started prime pantry. Gotta say it's pretty awesome if you don't need the stuff ASAP.
I've found that it's not great, though, if you have a small household. What I found happening is that I'd run out of toilet paper before my Prime Pantry box filled up and shipped, so I'd end up having to use a paper towel. Not only is that rough on the old starfish, you can't flush it, so you've gotta deal with that shite, then you end up at the store anyway to buy your Charmin Ultra.
I can see where it would work well if you have a large enough household to fill the boxes up quickly enough to have regular shipments.
I used to use the dash button for household items and just smash a button when I got low, but I have Echos now. It's WAY easier to just say "Alexa, order some paper towels" and it just goes and finds what you ordered last and asks you to confirm you want to reorder it.

We're still behind the times for a total shift away from storefronts. Product delivery and support need to catch up
Needs to catch up in rural areas and smaller cities. I can get most stuff delivered same day in Dallas if I order in the morning. Next day if I order in the afternoon. I imagine more big cities are the same.

We've got malls closing nationwide, and recently Sam's Club announcing the closure of 63 stores. Costco is also feeling the pinch and they directly blame it on millennials.
Have you been to any places like this in LA? It's a fricking nightmere with the fricking inbred dumbasses that shop and work at these fricking places.
That's why I don't go.

I can completely see this. Order your groceries ahead of time on your phone, show up at the store, they're bagged and ready to go
Poor. I order my groceries online with Publix and get them delivered to me.

It’s all about creating an environment people want to be in outside of getting the actual product. Big warehouses and factories repurposed into art studios, independent bookstores, coffee shops, cool boutiques, food stalls, all under one roof. A place people can go spend 4-5 hours on a Saturday/Sunday as a fun activity. Main streets and boulevards with great architecture that are closed to cars and people want to walk down.
That’s where successful retail is going. Not going to big box megastore bc you “need” stuff

Macy's has been closing stores in recent years

You might be right, but I'm sure they said the same thing about Sear's 30 years ago
You'd have to go back a lot further. Sears downfall began 50 years ago and their retail dominance was not undermined by any competition so much as it was by Sears' own misguided venture into stocks, real estate, credit cards, (Dean Witter, Coldwell Banker, Discover) and their quest to build the world's tallest building, etc... They lost focus on retail and they themselves allowed others to overtake them while focusing interest elsewhere.

We seem to prefer a "town square" type commercial environment like boomers parents had

Starbucks
To the people using this as a joke....isn't Starbucks a product of Gen X? I've found younger people prefer locally owned coffee shops. Everytime I go in a Starbucks it's full of old people.
Which brings me to another point. I think millennials prefer locally owned establishments in general. Baby boomers and Gen X'ers tend to gravitate towards national chains.

Im 35. Dont know exactly where I fit, but the point is, there is this local coffee shop about a mile from where I live. Never been there. I dont drink coffee, but the area is booming and two other coffee shops have come in within the past 3 months. I dont think they are national, but there are multiple in Nashville, and the local place has been putting up signs on their billboard basically begging people to come to their place. I decided on Friday that I would go there at least once next week for a snack or something to give them business. I want to help the little guy.
