What will the bottomline be on this streetcar project?

From BR Business Report. 2.7 million for a study and counting.

Another item of city-parish that will be delayed is the appropriation of $1 million in traffic impact fees that will help fund the environmental and planning phase of the proposed Nicholson corridor streetcar. The city-parish received a $1.76 million federal TIGER grant earlier this year to begin planning for the streetcar along three miles of Nicholson Drive between the LSU campus and downtown, and it is required to put up $1 million in matching funds.

Baton Rouge will keep falling farther behind as a city because Kip Holden, and other politicians just like him, keep spending tax dollars on neat ideas. Rather than focusing on infrastructure and education.
I recently read an article about one of the corporate offices in Baton Rouge that are planning a move specifically because they want a city with more to offer.

What is the distance of the line? Streetcar or light rail can cost from $50-$100milion/mile vs $10-25million/mile (see 2nd link). If Baton Rouge they would say f**k the streetcar and put in a bus rapid transit (BRT)line instead. BRT is cheaper, spurs development better, be expanded cheaper, adjust to demand better, and can always be upgraded to light rail or a street car in the future if demand is there. Since we don't know what the demand will be I think BR would be better building a BRT line and save the money. However, Louisiana doesn't know how to manage money so I expect there to be $100M/mile streetcar that only gets used on gamedays.

Bus rapid transit, in which buses in dedicated lanes perform like rail lines, can not only spur development, but can do so far more efficiently than light rail and streetcars, according to a study due out later this month from the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy.
“Both BRT and LRT can leverage many times more development investment than they cost. Now we can say that for sure,” according to the institute’s director for the U.S. and Africa, Annie Weinstock, who previewed the findings at a Metropolitan Planning Council Roundtable in Chicago last week.
“Per dollar of transit investment, and under similar conditions, BRT can leverage more (development) investment than LRT or streetcars.”
BRT 50% than streetcar in Arlington Va

Baton Rouge has made a ton of strides in the right direction over the past 10 years. This stuff doesn't happen overnight.

I won't ride the bus, but I'd ride a streetcar
Especially for gamedays

Cleveland's Healthline BRT beats the pants off of NOLA's or any other city's streetcars.

The only thing more fun than a BR Loop article is a BR monorail article.

Cool, it will still have the perception of a bus. In Louisiana, a streetcar would have more demand
Your post really has nothing to do with mine

The South is plagued with the notion that buses are for poors and blacks. Light rail and streetcars are sexy. Buses aren't. I agree with you about BRT. It is the better option in most cases.

The Metro Council adjourned early on Wednesday, just 40 minutes after calling the meeting to order, because too few members were present to make up a quorum.
I'm an outsider, but that is just embarrassing. How the frock does that happen?

Because the BR city council is terrible. Always has been.

Probably stuck in traffic

What goes on in that room would rival American Idol's ratings if put on TV. Same goes for pretty much anything political in Louisiana

One of them was definitely driving in from somewhere.

Three miles per the quote above.
Biggest question I have is whether or not the demand justifies the expense. How many people will use the line from LSU to downtown BR on a regular basis?
