How exactly do you not allow it? Forced abortions? Sterilization?

Huh? I've heard Mexican Americans being hurt and abducted, but your average gringo or gringa? I've never heard this.

You're putting me in a very, very rare position where I have to side with LNCHBOX in a New Orleans-related thread.

If you know this person and she was in the news over it, a quick google search should pull that article up in no time. If you want to make this claim, back it up.

Good chance on the 1950s this conversation wouldn't apply to New Orleans Lousiana.

I don't live in the dump, so what do I really care?

You act like tourists have never been raped and or murdered in New Orleans. This very shooting happened on THE tourist street of the city, for what it's worth

Canal? Late at night? By Crystal/Krystal? I know better than to be down there past dusk? Unless I found a time machine and got back to 1998.

I know I am bringing up race! As though nobody in this thread has? Somebody said "forced sterilization" in this thread. come on.

The thing that Chicago has going for it

Is segregation.

New Orleans is one of the truly integrated cities. Mixed income housing neighborhoods actually exist here. I always laugh when some frick in an out of city gated suburban community tells me the problems with my city or talks about racism.

Easy killer. I was making the same point you were - Chicago is segregated and the crime is concentrated.

I think people not from here don't realize how truly corrupt every aspect of local government and business is.

Orleans parish taxes are already outrageous and keep rising. All of the money that could/should go to law enforcement gets handed out to corrupt officials and so called "disadvantaged" local businesses.

You're right about this. We only hear you guys grumble about it, but never specifics.

Here's an interesting article on how NYC cleaned up crime.

NYC still has dangerous parts but it is nothing like it was back in the 70's, 80's and early 90's

City Journal.org

quote:

Under Bratton, the NYPD brought enormous capacities to bear on the city’s crime problem—particularly Compstat, its tactical planning and accountability system, which identified where crimes were occurring and held local commanders responsible for their areas. Giuliani and Bratton also gave the force’s members a clear vision of the “business” of the NYPD and how their activities contributed to it. In short, a theory previously advocated largely by elites filtered down to—and inspired—line police officers, who had constituted a largely ignored and underused capacity.

Rudy Giuliani deserves a hell of a lot of credit for cleaning up NYC as both their DA and Mayor. He really has not gotten the acclaim he deserves because his policies while effective... were highly controversial and rubbed people the wrong way.

How do you not allow a mindset? Well that's impossible but showing/offering a better means to accomplish things is a start while at the same time a stronger deterrent needs to be enforced to not have a "slap on the hand" for committing a crime or being a multiple offender.

Get real on forced abortions or sterilization. Everyone knows that will never happen. What I have heard from people's mouths though is how when they go to local welfare offices and such that they are informed of simply "having another baby" would provide them more assistance and help them out. You don't see a problem in that?

Of course I do, but that's not what I asked. How are you going to not allow a mindset? That is what you posted, and like you say, it's impossible.

You can take New Orleans out of this statement and it would apply to literally every high crime area. I've lived in Baltimore, New York, Chicago and Memphis in my early adult life and it was the same shite. Hell, go to Disney World today and tune in to the evening news. Disney may be magical but some bad shite goes down in Orange County.

And what do NO, Baltimore, Chicago, and Memphis all have in common?

In all seriousness, everyone on this page knows what the problems are in NO and BR. Breesus and Rouge are just making excuses for it at this point. It won't change, and it's a shame because New Orleans could be such a nice city. A lot of people here won't say what the problem is but dammit I will because it needs to be said...

Statues...

Get those damn statues down and the city will be fine.
