What wild berries and fruits do you pick and eat?

I just noticed I have a muscadine vine growing on a tree in the woods just behind my backyard. It is loaded with grapes and brought back childhood memories of picking them and other fruits in the woods when I was young. Persimmon trees, pawpaw trees and of course blackberries were always a treat to find when we would play in the woods as a kid. My friends and I would find blackberry vines and pick enough to bring home and my mom would make us a pie. There probably aren’t too many young moms or kids that do that today.

I had a guy knock on my door in Diamondhead and ask if I minded if he picked some muscadines once. It was loaded every year.
I usually pick a few mulberries when I see them. There’s a few outside the CofC baseball field at Patriot’s Point.

We had two chestnut trees on opposite sides of our driveway growing up. You didn't want to walk around there barefoot, but fresh chestnuts are hard to beat.

My mom has a couple of dozen dewberry bushes near her house. When they're ripe, I help her pick them and she makes dewberry jam.
When I was a kid, my parents and I would load up in the boat and scoop up mayhaws out of the flooded river.

Persimmons , mulberry, elderberry , dew berries are in my yard so I eat those. Planted some pawpaws but no fruit yet. The beauty berries are novel, had those a few times to just try.

I grow/tend two mature muscadine vines; I don't know if it's the squirrels or the raccoons, but over a 48 hour period, usually about a week before they ripen, the little fricks eat a couple hundred grapes off of my vines and leave the skins on the ground. I've started looking into rigging up some netting for next year

Blackberries, huckleberries, muscadine, persimmon, oyster mushrooms, chantrelles, lion's mane, and anything else I can get my hands on that I know is edible.

It's almost certainly raccoons. We've got some vines at our camp and had to put up electric wires to try to keep them out or they will annihilate them.

Wild grapes and elderberries make good jelly and mulberries are good eaten right off the tree.

If you freeze the seeds you can plant them but they take 9 years to bear fruit. You could purchase the plants but trying to transplant is difficult because the roots go so deep.

They take 9 years to bear fruit but it's worth waiting for...just don't pick them, wait for them to fall to the ground. They will not ripen if you pic them.

There is beaucoup blackberry bushes along the MS river in BR. I’ll pick a gallon bag and make a few cobblers, then do it all over again until they stop making. Probably the most unhealthy time of the year for me and the family but sure tastes good. Pioneer woman has a heck of a blackberry cobbler recipe for those interested

I was hiking in Newfoundland last week and saw some berries there that looked ripe and raspberry-ish.
I didn’t risk it and I’m lucky I didn’t. They weren’t ripe and would have made me wish I hadn’t eaten them.
So only blackberries.
