mowed lawns. I had a few regulars.
when I hit age 15 I started an egg route.
cleared about 50 a week after paying a sister as help deliver.
I did fill-in paper route for a brother if he could not make it.

$4.25/hr to start. Couple of .25 raises over a year or two. Free meal on break could get creative with good 6’ pizza and plethora of toppings/cheese. Or Poboys/pastas.
If we closed, 2-3 16oz Killian’s Red was the norm. Every once in awhile, a quick one hit or two might be offered from one of the college aged ‘managers’. Other perks like house parties and annual Christmas party made it all so much better than just the minimum wage component.

I had a boss try to convince me to drop out of college for $8 per hour to be assistant manager when I worked at the video store on Lee and Burbank.
Some dude named Ryan took the offer instead. I always wonder what happened to him.
Edit: I read bad when I drink. High school. I made bank bussing tables at Mama Brava.

Don't remember what I got paid, but I worked for Ed Phillips at the full service Gulf station on the courthouse square in Farmerville. Had chicks stopping by for a quarter's worth of gas in the mid 70's. From 12:30-1:30 I was there by myself every day. If a farmer or trucker brought in a flat, I had to stop beating the wedges to get the rim broken and go wait on customers buying gas. Because the area where the tools for breaking down rims was shade free, I'd be glistening with sweat droplets. It was kind of the beginning of my "It's a girl, my Lord, in a flatbed Ford, Slowin' down to take a look at me" period.

I made over $5 in 1977-79 because the store was union or trying to avoid it or something.
I remember the butchers had a job action where they were still there but surly, didn't get it.

I think it was $4.25. It was enough for me to buy a used Mitsubishi Mighty Max truck after a couple months.
Best damn truck I ever owned in many ways.
