What was your hardest interview?

And how did you do?
I have an interview with a company next week and it’s one level above my current. The prep material is vague and just overall nerves. Wanna see how the OT dealt with it

The best interview I ever gave, at that point in my life, did not get me the job.
They ended up hiring one of the Director's butt buddies.
I was just a clown performing in the circus that day. Still, hell of a performance.

Recruiter reached out to me from Oracle for a business development position. Interview was first personality and then followed a video conference skills test where they put computer programming questions for me to answer. I have no idea what on my resume gave them the idea that I knew how to code python, but I failed it so miserably I never even got a rejection letter

Forbes brought the heat when they quizzed me over my Cayman Islands enterprises. Nothing a shot of Macallan Lalique Six Pillars couldn’t fix!

But to also answer your question the hardest interview in my life was for my current job.
New industry. Leadership interview. 8 Executives and VPs just throwing questions at you.
You got to sell yourself and your vision without telling them how to do their business.
I am lucky to have been through the interview processes before to be prepared. It was a challenge.

Why does a biz dev need Python? Aren’t you sales

My assumption is they combine their business development and sales engineer teams (At least for this position) looking for someone who can design data solutions based on client needs and then sell the design.
There are a few tech companies that handle it this way.

My previous position was probably my toughest interview, the "job requirements" were a mile long and always read like a Xmas list from HR but in the interview you'll always find out which ones are most important.
My go-to strategy in an interview is to always turn it into a conversation and always try to mix in some off-topic banter to find out how they are in regular conversation. If you find yourself talking about sports and whatnot in an interview then you know the job is yours.

I was 23 years old, a year out of college. I applied for a job where I would train end users on this software system that the organization was rolling out over a multi year project. Showed up to the interview and had the basic interview questions, which are all standard and easy to get through. Then the interviewer says, "I'm going to give you this paper with 20 different topics on it and I'm going to leave the room for 15 minutes, when I come back I want you to give me an impromptu 5 minute speech on one of the topics." I was definitely caught off guard, but managed to bullshite my way through it and got the job.
ETA: forgot to add, I had to take a logic based written exam as well. Which, I thought was pretty easy, but I do know that some people had issues passing it.

My first accounting job was 2 years ago, a semester before I finished school. They were remote because of COVID, So I did:
A phone screen with HR
A video interview with the hiring manager (controller)
A video interview my future senior
A video interview with 2 of my future colleagues
A video interview with the accounting manager
A video interview with someone on the OPs team, who we work closely with
A final debrief video interview with the controller
I heard back in a week and got the job. All interviews were at least half an hour, most were a full 60 minutes.
To be fair, the colleagues, accounting manager, cross-functional, and debrief interviews would have been a single in person office day, but because of COVID they were extended video interviews over the span of 2 days.
I was fricking exhausted afterward. I now ask the HR person what the hiring process consists of and if it's more than a screen and 2 interviews I politely say no thank you.

Cisco
Full day of testing, mock presentations, mock meetings, and two different hard interviews.
It was crazy... Got a LOI but then they had budget cuts and decided not to hire anyone. So that was a waste of time.
This was right out of college so it was a bit more daunting without much experience yet

I walk in to the interview and realize my ex GF’s mother is the one conducting it. We had never met, but she had to know who I was. I knew I had no chance, so I just wanted to yell, “I fricked your daughter!”

Went to a hotel in the CBD for an interview. Figured the guy would have a meeting room or something.
Nope, brought me up to his hotel room and sat on the bed to interview me as I sat at the table. Kept his shoes on at least.
Somewhat major nationwide company that works with Home Depot.
