Hauling hay..
We got 4-5 cents a bale. Split 2-3 ways. I'd pray for rain so we could go fishing instead.
Around $5hr...

Mowing yards from 12 on. Hauling hay and working a ranch from 15 through HS.
I'm a little amazed that 2, now 3, people here have mentioned hay hauling. That's 2 old farts as old as me.

We would do well to walk away with $15-$20 bucks.

Worked with my uncle moving people for two summers in high school. He drove an 18 wheeler for united van lines. Got to see the country. He was based in Chicago and we would move people to las Vegas, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Miami, and every where in between. Pay was good for back then (2000, 2001). Think I made about $8 grand each summer and all my living expenses were paid for.

if we're counting young childhood stuff I worked for years on Old Man Vines' farm next door to us doing everything from cutting & bailing hay, feeding cows, goats, chicken, plowing fields... you name it. I probably spent close to half my childhood with him and his wife over there. He was a WWII vet and I was totally fascinated to hear all his stories as a kid. When we'd come in form the field his wife would have a huge lunch for us. Man I miss those days.

flag football assistant referee for 7-8 year olds at age 16. got paid $20 a game and there would be 4 games.
so id come in at 7am on a saturday morning and leave at 11am with $80. that was a shitload of money for me at 16 years old.

I was a cashier at The Real Superstore. We had some friends who were price checkers on the roller skates and we used to open bags of rice and pasta and throw it on the ground to try and make them fall.

Same here, but $20 was more money back then. We moved up the pay scale a bit when we invested in a loader and cut out one guy.
The work was more than hard enough to make me appreciate the value of an education. Damn kids these days, right?

Why?

No way I would have a job where I have to wear a swimsuit.
I got lucky and got an awesome HS job after leaving Winn Dickme.....working at a library. For a bookworm like myself that job was pure heaven.
