While learning how to swim as a kid, I got too confident and dove in the deep end and long story short started to drown because I got freaked out. I remember not being able to stay above water to breathe and started to sink before the lifeguard finally got to me.

Traffic came to a sudden stop along I-10. F250 behind me was texting, speeding, and never even tapped his breaks. Slammed into the back of my car, and pushed it through the median into on coming traffic. Suburban almost hit us head on but swerved out the way. Luckily we were able to drive the car into the ditch just before a semi passed. Scared the shite out of me. Still watch my rear view mirror anytime I come to a stop on the interstate

3 days later I walked out of the hospital. Haven't had a problem since. All glory to God!!
Remarkable!
Thanks to God you made it!

Rolled a vehicle. Came out with just some glass in my head. We lived pretty far out into the country. It was probably 1 or 2:00AM and walked to the nearest house to call home. Old man opened the door and I was immediately staring at a shotgun in my face. Sobered up real quick. Showed him my bleeding hand and pointed at my upside down car. Ranking of all the things that would have most likely killed me in this situation:
1. My mother
2. Old baw with shotgun
3. Rolling the car
Edit: Had a shark swim within 3' of me once. That was harrowing.

When I was about 4 I kicked a rock off the pier and went down with it. Brother pulled me out.
Septic about 12 years ago with an infection that ate a hole through my colon. That was fun.
Flipped a kayak that was sinking about half a mile out off Puerto Vallarta. Was swimming back when I noticed I was not alone. Luckily some local fisherman pulled me out and took me back to the beach. I won't ever go in the ocean again.
Countless dumb shite as a teenager that should have killed me.

Rolled my car through an intersection. Somehow didn’t get hit and ended up on its side and wasn’t ejected.
Ramped my truck into a giant mound doing about 70 mph and partially ejected myself, broken back, torn muscles and ligaments.
Gunfire within inches from rifle during an attack.
Shot with a shotgun while hunting.
Close call with sepsis.
A couple of times with staph.
Sank a boat while wearing waders in a river when I was a kid.
Fell through ice and got stuck briefly underneath.
Took a 4” tusk from a boar to the stomach.
IED of my own making.
I’ve got more and this was just kind of stream of consciousness, no particular order and just as I thought of them. I think I’m pretty warped. I’ve forgotten a lot of things that would be significant to others. My perception of mortality might be a bit off.

I was at the Hidden Falls at Jenny Lake in the Grande Tetons, and was taking a picture of my girlfriend. I slipped on a wet rock, and fell into the stream heading to the fall. I could not get my footing and was about 25 feet from the 100 ft drop when I got into a little still pool and was able to grab a branch, and pull myself out.
Everyone on the trail thought I was done, and I dont think my heart ever beat so fast.

Swimming ~100-200 hundred yards off the beach in southern florida, I see a dark shadow go below and past me, maybe about 20 feet distance from being directly under me. I look up hoping it was the shadow from a parasail or jet, but sky is clear.
About 3-5 minutes later whistles start blowing from life guard towers and I see everyone getting onto the beach. I mean everyone. I’m the furthest swimmer out.
Moments later I see the shark just off my shoulder. Just clear as a bell, stripes running down its back, absolutely bigger than I ever imagined. It circles me 1.5 times at about a distance of 10 feet.
I proceed to slowly breast stroke back to the beach wondering am I about to get devoured. I don’t see the shark again.
Not sure how close to death that really was, but it was the most terrifying moment of my life.

In high school, pulled up next to a car of drunk classmates parked in town one night. The passenger pulled a .38 out of the glove box and pointed it right at my face. Couldn't have been more than 4'. The gun was loaded. Driver pulled it out of his hands. That dumbass became a lawyer in KY.
Or the time me and two other guys were out driving a 72 Ford pickup, fish tailing on gravel, up a holler with a large creek. Driver lost control, jumped over the berm like Bo & Luke Duke, landed on our side in the creek. You don't know how heavy a 72' Ford door is until you're trying to push it straight up in order to get out.

I once told my current wife, "if you would talk a lot less, I'll listen a bit more"...
Still here.

Clearing bunkers in Iraq in early 1991 stepped over a cluster bomb by inches, the guy coming out behind me didn't. Removed both legs. Bled to death before we could do anything.
