84 LSU beat Tulane’s arse on and off the field. Best fight in Tiger Stadium of all time.

I remember 84, the world's fair, but I was 6. So by 1986 I was more into things in general and that was the peak for me. I still hear songs and it brings me right back to a point in the mid 80s. I can't remember shite I did last month though. Damn I'm old.

The whole decade was awesome. I was 9 years old on Jan 1 1980. I got to experience my childhood, teenage years, and early adulthood in this decade. I consider that one of the luckiest breaks of my life. To be able to say not only did I live through the 80s, I got to do it at the perfect age. I honestly pity those who came after and didn’t get to experience it. Literally every aspect of our society and culture was better then than it is now. And it’s not even close.
As for OP’s question, and it’s a tough one, I’d say the apex of the 80s would be ‘84-‘85.

Last night I watched the movie "The Heavenly Kid", filmed in 1985. Last time I watched it was in 1987 on HBO, I had forgotten about the movie. Needless to say it was cheesy AF, although the plot message was good.
I could not help but notice that that movie was so 80's. The music, fashion, houses, cars, cafeteria, neon lights, etc. There's even one scene that the nerd is at the diner and there are 2 dudes playing video games (Pac Man was one of them). It brought major flashbacks.
This movie, 16 Candles, Back to the Future, Weird Science & Police Academy could not be more 80's.

Me too, I was 14 y.o. in 1986. I remember those school dances so clearly, it was exactly as you would see in movies. I consider myself lucky to have lived in that decade and and be able to remember it so clearly.

Not me...but it is the most significant year of my life.

Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous started in 1984. Star Search began in 1983. I think they hit their peak in 1986. I was little, but 83-86 were awesome because I rode my bike everywhere with a pack of neighborhood kids and we felt free until the sun went down.

quote:I'm very envious. I would've loved to have been in college during the mid 80s. I do take some comfort that my class seemed to be the last before things changed drastically. We saw it happen first in 8th grade (school required the class after us to keep planners) and then in college. Most of the 80s pop culture was still around as well with tribute bands like U.S. playing in StarkVegas regularly.
Graduated HS in 1984, college 1988
To me the peak was 85-87 with so much of how the 80s were viewed coming from those years. Early 80s was a lot of carryover from the 70s (disco/Studio 54) and everything after Black Monday feels more 90s than 80s to me. Early '86 if you had to pin it down to a part of any one year.
I do chuckle that my earliest memory is sitting outside with my babysitter waiting for her bf to come over on 12/31/79. The next morning my parents were pissed to discover she and her bf had spilled alcohol on a rug. Her dad and my dad hunted together so I don't think anything ever came from it except for getting a different sitter. I spent the second half of '85 in Milwaukee and that still gives me a special feeling thinking back to the way things were back then.
Anyone born in the 80s really missed out. They have no clue about looking up the physical card in the library or party lines or recording mix tapes from the radio countdown. Cell phones were fairly common by the time they went to college.
