Cheap above ground pools are so trashy though.

My parents had an above ground pool when we were kids and spent somewhere in the $2500 range IIRC for the pool and installation. And this was what it cost 20 years ago and didn't even include the cost for material on the deck me and my dad built after the pool was up.

I think you need to increase your budget or accept that you're going to have an above ground pool with a nice deck.

the 70k number for outdoor kitchen still included the 46k for pool in it right?

Wishful thinking. Yep, I know. You don't have to say it.

What about something like this?

Still? 30+k? Like I said, I'm not looking for anything big, but I would like it to look nice. Not a fan of hot tubs either.

That makes sense. The wife really wants a pool and I love the way yours looks. I just can't decide how to finance. I just notice your kids head in the pool lol

I didn't realize that her head was included in that picture of my pool.

Are you located in Baton Rouge? LA Capitol FCU offered 5.8 % about 2.5 years ago for a personal loan.

Not sure if this is still offered today? I do know that many banks, including PenFed were offering 9.99 % for personal loans, so the 5.8 % I received was a "steal" considering it was unsecured.

Uh huh. I agree. In the back of my mind, every time I go out there, I think about the total cost before I slap a steak on the grill or plop my arse on a floatie.

Yes,very likely. Lots of extras even with that pool... Waterfall, coping, stone, tile, water features. It adds up quick

Yeah I do. It would be hard for me to pay almost 10%. I am going to have to check out La Capitol. I was going to add it to my mortgage but you are right, I don't want to lose my house because of a pool.

No way something like this costs more than 30k?

My parents have a nice pool at their house in Nola. I'm in Dallas now and I sure would like one, but I don't think it'd add much to my value. This isn't my forever home, so not willing to drop $80k on a pool.

don't get the pool if its that close of a call. Mortgages/HELOC's interest is a writeoff unlike a personal loan.

You might want to ask yourself if you plan on staying at your house for a long period of time. If you're not, install a nice above ground. Pools can hurt re-sale value of homes unless people looking at a house wants a pool. If not, you limit the possible buyers.

If you have an above ground pool, it can be taken down and is a lot cheaper than filling in an inground one.

Just some things to think about.

I think you can get a smallish pool for way less than 60 thousand. No deeper than 5 feet.

I also have a place about 12 inches deep to sit two chairs in. Really like that.

Our neighbors just put a pool in. 4 contracors bid and prices ranged from mid 40s to mid 70s all for the exact same pool.

Nice pool. I did something similar but with a fiberglass shell to avoid the gunite problems. Don't have a setup to host pics online. Spent about $60k including the deck, fencing and landscaping.
