The rate of change in some areas is increasing, meaning 2048 will probably be more different from today than we are from 1988. What will people look back on with nostalgia or wonder?

Bookmarked so I can bump in 30 years and we'll see who was right.

Very eloquently said.

People will be nostalgic about rap lyrics like “skrrrrrt pop pop bleh.”

Possibly. I've thought a few times how the music I listened to as a teenager (I'm 24 now) is pretty graphic and how I'd share it with my future kids. But I grew out of rap and a lot of modern music and basically only listen to stuff that my parents and their generation listened to. I've started re downloading some of it for nostalgia and have the thoughts "how the frick did my parents let me listen to this?"

People usually remember fads more than most other things. Pokemon Go will be nostalgic, I bet, as will the current age of big budget super hero movies.
